Lol this lockdown has played havoc my interview was meant to be pre lockdown but it was postponed for 3 months because of it all !
Oh my goodness that’s awful!! I had my interview at the beginning of March and had to wait for my medical until a couple of weeks ago but at least I knew I was successful. To have to wait for the interview must’ve been awful!!! Have you got a start date?

There are a couple of live Q&A videos with current Signallers on the Network Rail Careers Facebook page for anyone who is interested and hasn't already seen them.

Got my confirmation today that I will be starting IST at York on the 24th of this month and had a couple of questions..

Does the course still have an earlier finish time on Fridays to travel home? I am a 4 hour train journey away so would be very helpful if this was still the case!

And has anybody stayed at the Elmbank hotel during their previous training?

Hi Jordan.

We generally were finished well before 12 on a Friday. I was in the elmbank for the duration of my training but 9 weeks of it was during lockdown so restaurant etc was closed in the last two weeks the restaurant opened with a limited menu, 4-5 starters 3 mains and half a dozen desserts. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms weren't cleaned very regularly maybe once during the 5 nights meaning having to go and ask for a fresh towel, this could have been due to staff being furloughed.

I would speak to your LOM ask if you can eat out one night a week as the menu is pretty much the same all week.

They had rooms you could use as a group to revise on an evening

Thanks for that Paul.

I assume that the £25 food and drink allowance is only to be used at the hotel and is attached to the room booking?

Can't wait to get started now.

The 3 course dinner came to £24 if you don't have dinner you don't get charged it, and if your LOM agrees you can eat out and claim dinner back up to the £25

I'm sorry to hear that Katey89. Don't let it dishearten you, keep trying and fingers crossed for next time!
I'm sure I have seen on this page a few members not being successful the first few goes. At least you have the experience of the application now.

Hi Everyone,

After many failed attempts, i seem to have final been given an olive branch. My application for the Wembley Yard SB has changed to "Invite to assessement 2 Pending". While i have not yet recieved an email for an interview, i was hoping for a little help from anyone that can.

Can anyone give me information about that particular Signal box, e.g. what type it is, shift times, what its like working there in general along with any tips and tricks that could be helpful to know. i want to make a decent impression for the interview, so i hope to build some self-confidence by having an idea of what exactly i will be walking into.

Thanks

Wembley Yard is a single-manned Grade 6 box with an NX panel. 12 hour roster, changing over at 0600/1800.

I'm told it's a fairly relaxing box to work - traffic levels aren't high, and many of the irritations associated with mainline boxes (eg passengers, level crossings, trespassers) aren't a factor.

Try to arrange a visit to the box before the interview if you can.

Yes, myself, Javagem and Kinglewood start school on 7th at Westwood training centre, Coventry. Looks very nice. We are getting full details on our first day With LOM (1st September).

I've looked through this thread but can't seem to find a definitive answer to a question.
On my application it says "application accepted" and has done for nearly 2 weeks now. From things I've read on here it says the sjt tests etc are sent out within 72 hours of getting the application accepted.
However I've not received anything, does this mean I've not got through the first sift?
N.b I've not taken the tests in the previous 6 months as this is my first attempt.

Applied for a substantial number of signaller jobs and Network Rail generally and this just seems to mean nothing more than they’ve accepted your application to be honest. Can take some time before you hear back whether negatively or positively from that point in my experience though perhaps someone else will have a different one.

A bit of a girly question here but what is the uniform? Once you start in the box and also during training at signalling school? Just thinking ahead if I need to buy any smart clothes or anything ☺️
