Langwathby station was designed by the Midland Railway's architect John Holloway Sanders and opened in 1876. Ilkley station was also designed by him, but opened eleven years before, in August 1865.

The Atlantic Coast Line from Par to Newquay is a community rail service, supported by marketing provided by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership. One aspect of the this is the Rail Ale Trails, one of which is the Atlantic Coast Line. It was launched in 2005, and among the 15 pubs there are three in Newquay and two near St Colomb Road station.

Reddish South is another single-track station where the only entrance/exit from the single platform is a gate leading directly onto an adjacent road.

Another station with a 'parliamentary' service just one day a week is Brigg, although it has 3 trains in each direction, so fares better than Reddish South, which has only one.

When the first 25kV AC electrification schemes were commissioned around 1959/60, Frinton-on-Sea was on the Eastern Region's first line to be electrified at the "full monty" 25,000V voltage.
The Scottish Region's first foray into 25kV was on the North Clyde line serving, among other places, Dumbarton Central.

Neston is the last station on the English part of the Borderlands Line before it reaches Wales; Hawarden Bridge is the first station on the Welsh side.

Brundall Gardens station was once named as a "halt". There are two mainline railway stations which are still named in this fashion, one of which is Coombe Junction Halt.

Between April 2014 and March 2015, Coombe Junction Halt was the second-least used station in Great Britain, with 26 passenger entries and exits. The least used station in Great Britain that year, with 22 passenger entries and exits, was Shippea Hill.
