Apparently someone attempted to start a fire at Penzance Station. The article has a photo of two broken windows in part of the building between platforms 3 and 4 and also police tape on the fencing near the buffers.

Torquay man arrested after arson incident at train station

Police officers spotted smoke in the train station after a suspected burglary was reported

Officers called the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service at around 4.20am after noticing smoke pluming from inside the railway station. Firefighters rushed to the scene and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze.

It may be a coincidence, but there were other burglar alarms sounding in the early hours of this morning in central Penzance and blue lights flashing.

Penzance is subject to sporadic influxes of small groups of people with an antisocial bent, often arriving by train late at night I believe, There seems to be such a group at the moment, after the end of the storms and generally wet weather. They tend to roam around the town on most nights, knowing that police only generally come out at night now in response to 999 calls, and not even then sometimes! Whether the deplorable events of the other night were anything to do with such a group, I don't know, but a group of three targeted a local small Co-op to steal from the previous afternoon while I was in there.

Interesting that the local force D&C have got a suspect and are investigating being railway I'd have thought they'd pass everything for the BTP to sort out, I'm sure it will all come out eventually but the bloke had a axe to grind (molotov to throw) inevitablely, luckily it wasn't more serious and for the sake of staff it's back open soon.

Yes, and in my occasional experience the bus station next to the railway station is an unpleasant place to wait at night. I've witnessed open drug dealing going on.

The public WCs there between the bus and railway stations have been the scene of open drug dealing for at least a quarter of a century, despite the unusual (for a council) admission charge that has applied for all that time. There have been quite a few deaths there over the years, and the bus station closed in full or in part on many occasions, even in daytime.

Seems very odd indeed then that they’ve not simply been closed? Are there more facilities available inside the railway station?

There are indeed toilets inside the station, on Platform 3. Often unchecked access (no gate line) to the platform in my experience (but then I'm usually stumbling off the down sleeper half asleep when I use them!)
