Merseytravel Saveaway issues

It's actually a £2 difference though, not a 3p one. And if it's not that big of a deal in your view I'm sure Merseyrail won't miss it?
What is this £2? The Metrocard has a £1 one-off cost to the customer, which covers the cost of the card and goes to Liverpool City Region not the TOC.

Can a Saveaway be issued to other rail-issue ITSO smartcards? I have a GTR (Govia Thameslink Railway) Key smartcard, but if that's not possible I'll just buy a CCST version during my trip to Liverpool later this month.
No, most likely because Merseyrail sit outside of the National Rail Smartcard Scheme. They have their own HOPS (Host Operating Platform System) for ITSO.

You can buy a CCST MerseyTravel All Areas Saveaway at any station ticket office in the country, and at some TVMs. Don't have to wait until you get to Liverpool to buy it. Could be handy if you are travelling some distance and you could buy your ticket from origin to the Saveaway area boundary.

The customer should be offered the £1 to switch, not the other way around.

Notice how no other areas have had any issues with this. They either charge a refundable deposit, no deposit at all, or are sensibly doing away with the need to get a card in the first place.

How much difference is it?
I don't know what was used to calculate the £1 charge into 3p so I can't say.

Tried that at Milton Keynes Central yesterday (twice; second time with the BR Fares page as evidence) to no avail. Not that it mattered as I obtained one from the Northern TVMs at Lime Street in short order.

[N.B. Discovering Chester station is managed by TfW took me by surprise, until I remembered Saltney (part of the same urban area) is in Wales]

Shrewsbury and plenty of other stations in England are managed by TfW too. Transport for Wales and Borders would be a more accurate description.

It’s weird that you can buy a Saveaway from a Northern ticket machine (paper) but not from a Merseyrail ticket machine like at Bache where there is no ticket office. Nor can you buy it online through the Metro app for your smart card.

I think Runcorn East and Nantwich are the two TfW stations furthest from Wales.
In fact from the latter it's almost 100 miles before you enter Wales on the Marches route at Pontrilas.
At the former, I think the departures poster is just in English, unlike at most other TfW stations.

In February I bought a paper one at Chester station. I reached Ellesmere Port station and looked out of curiosity, but did not see it obtainable from the ticket machine there.

Under Arriva Trains Wales, it used to be that Chester ticket machines offered the Saveway and there was a notice stuck on the machines saying 'travelling off peak, buy an all day rover, just search for NorthWirralLines' or something like that and it would print and while it didn't say Saveaway, it was recognised generally by bus drivers that 'northwirrallines' meant saveaway.
Sadly I couldn't find it on the new machines last time I checked, and they also don't sell the Merseyrail only day ticket, so you have to end up getting the more expensive tickets for no good reason, or use the ticket office.

Merseyrail and TFW working together to shaft passengers and stop them accessing the best value fares.

Northwirrallines was the Day Saver. And still can be sold via ticket machines at Chester last time I tried a few weeks back. Both Day Saver and Saveaway are available from ticket office

Worth noting that Saveaways can’t be purchased from Merseyrail ticket machines so those south of Hooton have no choice but the Day Saver unless travelling from Ellesmere Port on the rare occasion the ticket office is open which I’ve not seen open since at least mid February.

I tried searching for it but it didn't work for me. No results got found. And in the past, I am sure it used to be the saveaway as bus drivers and the ferry accepted tickets labelled NorthWirralLines.

Shouldn't be forced to go to ticket offices to get some tickets, TFW and Merseyrail need to get their act together and update the ticket machines.

The saveaway used to say Merseytravel Saveaway All Zones or Area X. The NorthWirralLines has always been the ME daysaver.

Still comes up but I think its changed so you no longer search to Northwirrallines but rather Merseyrail or Mrail All Zone or something like that, can't remember exactly.

EDIT - Its now destination "Merseyrail Only All Area Daysaver" photos attached of search on Star mobile ticket machine.

Saveaway is under rangers and rovers as MTRAV All Zone/AREA B etc or similar.
