What happened to PDFs of printed bus timetables or area books like Scotrail? An addition of a route map is very useful too.

The PDFs were great, easy to read. Both the website and app are awful to use. I don’t think it will change either.

I fully agree about the addition of a route map, but sadly I can’t see that happening either.

The Elgin City Map linked is almost half a decade old.
What you say is true to an extent, but most of the services on the map still run as they did before.

Having said that, there's no excuse for having out-dated information on the website!

The map itself was never actually accurate as its from the proposed March 2020 changes that got put on hold due to Covid-19. Hence the 10 is shown as an "X10" even though the renumbering never actually took place.

The information is there but not readily available unless it is a new service number or new destination, when you can find it in Timetables. If you Google search "stagecoach bluebird timetable 3 february 2025 amazon web services" with the service number you should see it for download.
The service change page now belatedly has links to the timetables.
Not sure the stopping arrangements of the X9 are correct, as these were changed to all stops south of Tesco on Wellington Road and the new timetable has the original stopping arrangements.

I spotted one of the new Yutong coaches in Elgin yesterday, although it was only a very brief glimpse.

I'm assuming that wheelchair access is via the middle door as the front one doesn't look wide enough. If this is the case, I assume that the company has a plan for when someone needs to board or alight in Elgin (or anywhere else with a saw-tooth bus station).

Yes they have a Centre door ramp.

This doesn't address the fact that centre boarding is impossible at certain points along the route.

I'll ask again - how do wheelchair passengers board or alight at Elgin when the door is in the middle of the coach?

Vehicles 50413–50419 and 50450 have arrived in Aberdeen to replace the Citylink Interdeckers, with 50451 set to follow from East Scotland. Additionally, 50419 has released 54301 back to Inverness, where it is currently operating in Caithness as cover for 54131, which is presently at Inverness.

They've been in Aberdeen for a few weeks with some already in service

What does this mean?
I've been meaning to ask for ages but never remembered!
Pool of buses that are usually in operational-ish state, but not in public use for whatever reason (usually the vehicle has been displaced and has yet to be reallocated or disposed of), or vehicles that have been withdrawn temporarily (but still long term) due to an accident or other such incident. Fairly wide term as you can see.

I passed one of the new enviro 400 EVs on the A90 heading north in Stagecoach colours this afternoon. Perhaps off for a trial in one of the depots.

Service Updates

Stagecoach confirms new fares for passengers in North Scotland07 Apr 2025

  • Fares pay for day-to-day running of services, continued investment in new buses and other customer improvements
  • Stagecoach Bus App now offers simplified ticket selection
Revenue from customer fares is vital for covering the daily expenses of running bus services, including inflationary pressures on fuel and maintenance costs which are increasing the cost of operations. Fare revenue also enables continued investment in our people, new vehicles, technology, and customer service improvements and helps to cover additional costs, such as National Insurance increases.
David Beaton, Managing Director for Stagecoach North Scotland said: “Bus travel remains great value for money and our ticket prices provide an affordable and sustainable option for customers. Stagecoach has consistently delivered some of the lowest ticket prices in the UK and we are committed to keeping fares as low as possible for our customers.”

The following fares will be introduced from Sunday 27th April across Stagecoach North Scotland services.
  • We’re introducing the NEW Aberdeen City Plus ticket that will cover Portlethen, Elrick/Westhill, Drum Castle, Blackburn, Hatton of Fintray, Potterton, BalmedieA96 Elgin-Inverness ticket will be replaced by Inverness Zone 4
  • Portlethen (to Aberdeen) ticket will be replaced by the new Aberdeen City Plus
  • Westhill (to Aberdeen) ticket will be replaced by the new Aberdeen City Plus
  • Aberdeen Commuter Zone will not extend to Methlick.

Some news on fare updates coming at the end of the month. The new Aberdeen City Plus ticket seems a good idea. But some of the fare rises are absolutely eye watering, well in excess of 10% (such as a 12.4% increase for a return from where I am!), which will likely lead to me using the bus less.

I also see that they are stopping selling smart cards on the buses from the same date as the fare increase.

10% on my usual ticket which is now rolled into the new Aberdeen City Plus. That will be felt.

The question is, if I buy a 4 week megarider to get the old price immediately before the new fares take place, is it still valid after the new fares come in? One to ponder.

I believe so, it certainly was the case when I did similar a few years ago. I’m just a casual bus user but with the exception of using them for going out for beers, I don’t think I’ll use it much as it’s just far too expensive for what is a very patchy service. I accept fare rises each year but this one is just unjustified.

The single fares in Aberdeen are shocking, its going to cost almost £4 just to go from Mounthooly to the Haudagain! A journey that takes about 5 minutes. Not sure what First charge for the same journey but i know its signficantly less.

Round about the £3 mark I think, First will be significantly cheaper after Stagecoach hike the fares up

The difference is not great if you are making more than one journey £5.25 for a First two trip and £5.55 for a First Day compared with the new Stagecoach day fare of £5.80.

The single fares are so high due to the brain dead calculation method used by ScotGov for NEC holders (as explained well by Ember in the post on their website earlier this year).

It's only going to keep getting worse unless the calculation is changed to something more sensible.

At the moment, it seems the only upper bound to the single fare price is the two trip / day ticket price.

A bit of a niche case but anyone who already has a railcard might consider a Dyce - Aberdeen single with plusbus add-on for £4.70 worth it for the saving, nothing to say that you have to actually make the train journey.

I don't think that would be allowed, because both Dyce and Aberdeen stations are within the Aberdeen PlusBus zone.
