Interesting to see that Jofra Archer excelled again. In todays India Premier League game he recorded the worst ever bowling figures for the event of 4 overs 0 Maidens 76 runs 0 wickets.
Hope he's in the Ashes in December
He probably will be, now that Wood seems doubtful after more surgery!

Sad to hear that the Gabba's going to be closed down and replaced by a new Stadium in Victoria Park which is being built for the 2032 Olympics. Wont be the same

I miss the old WACA in Perth, one of the sporting venues I'd most like to visit! Still stands thought as far as I'm aware, but not used for Test cricket and probably not for first-class either, so what's it being used for now?

The WACA is still very much in use - as recently as a couple of weeks ago - for first class cricket.

Proper cricket starts tomorrow. Surrey to win the County Championship for the fourth year in a row, or will someone else win it? As a Hampshire supporter, it'll be interesting.

Well done to Somersets Tom Banton who scored 344 Not Out against Worcestershire @ Taunton today. This beat Justin Langers 342 as the Countys highest ever 1st class score.
By comparision in the 1st innings Zak Crawley scored 1 off 7 balls for Kent against Northants
Slightly better in the 2nd innings getting 31 before being caught.

Tom Banton was finally out (caught) for 371 off only 403 balls.
He is English and has played in Test Matches, what chance?

Zak Crawley's blistering form continues.
Today opening for Kent against Middlesex he was out fourth ball for a duck.

Batting first at Edgbaston yesterday, in glorious sunshine, The Blaze recovered from 5-2 in the first over to post a total of 252-9. Warwickshire fell 41 runs short of that. Not helped by one of their team (Chloe Brewer) sustaining an injury whilst fielding, which prevented her from batting.

England have announced their squad for the stand alone Test against Zimbabwe starting on May 22nd @ Trent Bridge.
Sam Cook & Josh Tongue have both been recalled after a gap of a couple of years, but incredibly Zak Crawley's name is on the sheet.
So far in 2025 the opener has scored; 6, 0, 1, 31, 0, 58, 1, 54 Not Out and to day 6 off 9 balls.
Giving him an average so far of 19.625, is that good enough?

When was the last time England played Zimbabwe in first class cricket? I believe there was a prolonged boycott when Mugabe went off the deep end in the 00s but I'm guessing it was only lifted recently.

His 124 today will have improved that average a bit and probably is good enough.

Yet another Nottinghamshire win. Making puddings of Yorkshire. They'll be getting a nosebleed soon. Seems so long since they were this far up the table.

Finally Lancashire have sacked Mr Relegation - "Coach" Benkenstein has gone via a mutual arrangement.

Thankfully we (Leicestershire) got in with an innings victory before they saw sense and binned him off. (And in the earlier game between the two teams Lancashire were saved by the weather). Nice of him to make some slightly patronising remarks about us afterwards as well.

But Mark Chilton who appointed Benky is still in charge!

Neil Warnock and Big Sam expressed an interest in the coaching role until the end of the season, but Chilton has seen sense and appointed Steven Croft instead….!

Second ODI

West Indies ... 308 all out

England ... 312-7

Root 166 not out from 139 balls, with 2 x 6 and 21 x 4.

England win by three wickets.
And to think a couple of years back Root was omitted from England’s white ball team!

Best, complete batsman in world cricket!

I have to mention that in the 2nd ODI between England Women and West Indies Women, the England openers put together an opening stand of 202 in 29.2 overs which enabled England to score 366-6 in 50 overs.
Tammy Beaumont...106 from 109 balls with 1 x 6 and 12 x 4
Amy Jones.............129 from 98 balls with 20 x 4

England won by 143 runs.

Amy Jones has really made the most of the chances offered by her being promoted up the order, two centuries in her first two ODIs as an opener. She'd never previously scored an international century, though of course batting at around no 6 reduces the likelihood of making one!
