Should BTP be absorbed into the regular Police forces?

I agree that BTP should be absorbed into the regular police, or be given more powers.

Brings back sad memories of when a woman was assaulted on the platform at Manchester Victoria, then the train had to wait more than half an hour for the regular police to arrive with BTP on scene that couldn’t do anything about it.
Why couldn't BTP deal with it?

No idea. We just sat there for half an hour with BTP on the scene, waiting for Greater Manchester Police to arrive. Once they arrived, it was only about 5 more minutes before the train departed! If BTP could’ve dealt with the incident, the delay could’ve likely been less than 10 minutes.

Makes me think the BTP should just be absorbed into the regular Police forces...
Absorbing BTP into regular police would make the relationship between rail sector and police far worse than it is now.

Sounds potentially like they was waiting for a custody van or extra people to help remove the perp, which is a problem regular police have too

That was all sorted out years ago; these days BTP has the same powers as a home office police service

If it was to be absorbed, would we still have See it, Say it, Sort it? Silly question I know.

Does anyone know if BTP are trained in PTS ?
BTP do not hold PTS. They have their own track safety training however do not undertake activities such as taking line blocks and so on.

In most instances they would go on the track under the authority of a Network Rail Mobile Operations Manager (Mom), or their equivalent for other railway companies they operate on such as LU. Where no Mom or equivalent is present, their control may authorise officers to take track access after the BTP control room has had discussions with the appropriate railway control.

This Raib report goes into detail about track access for emergency services including BTP.

Can’t have been, the incident was only around a year or two ago
They might have been PCSOs. BTP constables have had the same powers* as their home office counterparts fire about 20 years.

*BTP can operate across GB, not just England and Wales.

Yes.

As a member of a HO force we end up dealing initially with 90% of incidents in their jurisdiction anyway (not their fault at all), which just generates more admin and hassle transferring the crime record to them for progression (and annoyance from victims who think we are fobbing them off when we phone them up a few days later, to give them the BTP ref and that anything further is up to them).
