Hi all. :D

I am traveling from Durham Manchester, pref Piccadilly, but stopping at Blackburn for a night. I am returning from Manchester Piccadilly back to Durham.

What would be the best route but at the cheapest cost ?

Thank you.

What are your criteria for the best route? Do you mind going a long and winded route to get costs down? Do you have a railcard?

Hi. I dont mind the route, as I thought Durham to Leeds then change to Blackburn, but then Manchester back became a problem. I have a adult Disabled pass.

Hi,
Using the quickest route outwards and your railcard:

Durham - Leeds SVR route any permitted: £26.25 All trains are barred which are due to arrive in Leeds before 0930.
Leeds - Manchester route Hebden bridge SOR: £12.15

Take a break of journey on the Leeds to Manchester ticket, it's valid for any time within four days outward. There may be better places to split, I haven't really looked and others will help with that.

Would you be able to use Manchester Victoria for the return journey? Or the tram from Pic to Vic?

If so, get on any train to Leeds via Hebden bridge, Leeds tends to be the best place to change for Durham.

SVR = off peak return, SOR = anytime return

Otherwise a change of route excess on your return for £1.95 from route Hebden Bridge to any permitted on your way back and then you can use the fast, direct trains from Manchester Pic.

You've not stated what dates you are planning to travel, and whether you require flexibility for times. This assists greatly when finding cheaper fares. For example, there are Advance Purchase fares on Transpennine Express from Manchester Pic to Durham, but you must travel on the booked train.
