    The Missus/The Wife

I use 'my other half' occasionally, with the intention of denoting 'the other half of the partnership that I'm in'. No implied ownership by the use of 'my', and a useful if colloquial way to describe the other person in a long-term but unmarried partnership. Other times I'll use 'my partner'...

    The Missus/The Wife

If I see "Misses" it looks to me like the plural of Miss. "The Mrs" was more often spelt "Missus" surely 1621248359 But people say "my home town" without denoting ownership.

Tinsley Intermodal progress updates (contains large images)

Your first photo shows a lot of rebar grids, presumably stored ready for the extension of the concrete pad in the Catcliffe direction. And if you blow it up, you can read the bonus comedy slogan on the vacuum truck in front of the rebar "ACS Drainage - we suck" !

Well you can't run the railway for the benefit of photographers! No great disappointment here, as I wasn't really expecting to see it.

Trivia — Lines That Were Built For Double Track But Were Only Ever Single

Some structures on the South Yorkshire Joint Railway (the line through Maltby) were built to allow widening to double track, which never happened. e.g. you can see double-width bridge piers in Brookhouse village in this google streetview view: https://goo.gl/maps/JX4qrYZHMS28WkNaA

Your roving reporter writes: Not much in the way of new infrastructure visible there today. No lighting yet, and the concrete loading pad still only extends for about half the site length, requiring the train to draw forward at intervals for loading and unloading. The stack of containers was...

The chap I spoke to on opening day said 4 trains a day by the end of the year, one of which would replace a Masborough one. He also mentioned the possibility of getting a shunting loco on site! Don't shoot the messenger if it doesn't happen though.

Traffic to the new Tinsley container terminal is already up to two trains a day, one FL and one GBRF. They're conveniently timed to pass each other around Rotherham Central at about midday. Here's the pair yesterday (12/5/21) at Parkgate, at 1204 and 1207:

    Solo travel abroad?

In Germany at least, if it's crowded they'll often ask you to share a table at more informal places. Before the Brexit vote, I had an interesting conversation with two Japanese businessmen on the UK's position in Europe, and elsewhere I was sat at the same table as a couple of bikers who it...

    Rhätische Bahn in 2003.

Looks like you'll have to scour the timetable for trains with these coaches (no glass at all!): https://www.rhb.ch/en/leisure-travel-and-excursions/groups-schools/charter-carriages/open-scenic-carriages

Not on the Allegras I don't think. But on those new loco-hauled sets (on the St Moritz runs) there's one coach that's set up for photographers with opening windows. See the Alvra page at https://www.rhb.ch/en/company/projects-dossiers/the-articulated-alvra-trains

Nice. By the time I went to Arosa it was Allegra units rather than locos. But they still ran round at Arosa as they were carrying tail traffic - extra coaches, and in one case cement wagons. I walked down from Arosa via Litzirüti (beer) to Langwies taking photos, including one at the crossing...

    Walking and Rambling discussion

East/West the other way round? For a linear walk, it's possible to go west from Kiveton Park over the former canal tunnel, under the M1, then down the flight of derelict locks to Rother Valley CP, round the lake and onwards to the tram at Halfway.
