Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Already a thing. Irish Ferries have EV charging on some of their vessels, albeit only 7kWh. https://www.irishferries.com/uk-en/frequently-asked-questions/general-information/electric-cars/

    What colognes/fragrances do you like?

I like most of the Boss fragrances. Have a bottle of Unlimited and Infinite on the go.

    Laptop recommendations

We bought a laptop from https://www.gcentre.co.uk/ for our son to take to Uni. Very impressed with the price and condition. They give up to 3 yrs warranty at a sensible price. It may not have the latest generation processor, but if you're just browsing and using Office, that doesn't matter at all.

    Arriva Yorkshire discussion

We had a note from Woodkirk Academy yesterday informing us that Arriva are no longer running the WA2 (to and from Batley). Students are being advised to use the 212 which will be run by Yorkshire Buses. This is curious, as the current 212 doesn't go anywhere near Woodkirk Academy.

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Just been watching a Hubnut YouTube video about a Hustler wooden kit car from the 80s. The idea of building your own car with a donated chassis is definitely a thing of the past.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

I'm on Ovo charge anytime which charges 7.35p/kwh. I plug in when I get home, tell the app I want the car ready and it decides when to start in order to be ready in time. Seems to work very well.

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Really? All funerals I've been to have been either in a church or the Crematorium chapel. And a baptism surely has to be a religious event by definition.

Discussion About What Should Happen if Unable to Show a Ticket Due to Phone Running Out of Charge

Providing passengers with basic charging facilities at the point of ticket inspection would soon call the bluff of the fare chancers who use it as a convenient excuse. I'd like to see how their demeanour changes when given the opportunity to get the phone on. I suspect many of the phones are...

Last stations to have a passenger loco to run around it's train

Travelling from York to Swansea on the direct Cross Country berween 1991 and 1994, the loco ran round at Gloucester (I think}. I guess that carried on until the withdrawal of that service. When did that happen?

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

No, the formats are totally incompatible. Maybe you're thinking of VHS-C which was used in camcorders. The cassette was smaller than standard VHS cassettes but used the same tape and recording format. There were adaptors available to play VHS-C cassettes in a full size machine.

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

And Great Mills DIY. But we're veering well away from companies likely to disappear!

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Houses with 'Vacancies' advertised where spare rooms were let on a daily basis to visitors. This was common in holiday areas, and my parents in Tenby took in visitors in the 70s.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

2024 Niro EV, £485 with Elephant. That's for 14k a year, business use if needed, parking on the drive, £100 voluntary XS, legal protection. The Admiral group were significantly cheaper than other companies this year. There's a discount on this as we have a multicar policy - without it I think it...

    Journey with RRB costing more

Sorry on abbreviations - assumed SVR was a 'saver return' Anyway - does this mean that a traveller using an off peak return routed 'via Manchester' will actually be barred from using the replacement bus service? It's using a route that wouldn't usually exist as a direct journey and has only...

    Journey with RRB costing more

Getting some confusing results for fares between Penally and Huddersfield for my mother. When travelling via Shrewsbury, I would expect the fare to be £122.20, as set by TfW. I want flexible tickets, just in case, and looking for non-split. I'm using the forum ticket engine (set to flexible...
