GWR Class 230 Information, Movements & Discussion.

Whilst there is a separate thread specifically for the Greenford Battery Trial, I thought I would start a more general information, movements & discussion thread for the GWR Class 230. Possibly 3 units (numbers n/k at this time) will be moving to Reading TCD in the latter half of this month...

Peter Watts Publishing 1Hxx books - Guide to Loco Hauled Passenger Trains

In the 1987 Summer Timetable book (1H87) it mentions that due to BR publishing a winter timetable (Oct 87 - May 88) that a second book, 2H87 would be published as well. Was 2H87 ever published? if so, does anybody still have a copy? All the other editions regularly crop up on a well known...

April Fools - Railway related / themed.

This morning as we all know was the time for April Fools. The Roman Numerals on Realtime Trains was widely noticed and commented upon in this forum. One of my favourites was this one seen on the Class 57 group on Facebook: I must admit I did have to do a double take as, at work, the status...

Oxford - Rewley Road Swing Bridge

Had some time to kill at Oxford yesterday so took a short wander to see what was happening at the old swing bridge, as I had noticed from previous journeys that work had started on clearing the area around the bridge. Seems that the restoration project has finally started.

Using Contactless/Oyster PAYG do you have to tap at interchange stations?

Apologies to the OP slightly on topic but this is a bit of a general question to all. The bits I’ve bolded in the quotes, I don’t really know much about Oyster and don’t have one but I thought when you touched in, you always had to touch out, even when it’s an interchange (is that what the pink...

    Rail Riders Club 2020

https://www.facebook.com/Railridersclub/?epa=SEARCH_BOX Hopefully that link works. Anyway it appears, according to said Facebook page that the 1980’s era railway club “Rail Riders” is set to make a return in 2020. I’ve not gone through the whole page but there seems scant detail on the actual...

    PWSM - Meaning?

Hi On the new platform extension (Up Relief) at Cholsey there’s a post with the 48 1/2 milepost on it, just under the milepost is a sign: One half reads “PWSM Didcot” the other half reads “PWSM Reading” What does PWSM stand for? I’m thinking something like: “Permanent Way Section Manager” ???

GWR Class 769 information. (Units no longer with GWR - Off Lease March 23)

Whilst there are other threads about the 769, GWR use of them tends to get lost amongst the ‘Northern’ discussion. There is also a GWR 769 thread in the ‘speculative discussion’ part of the Forum but seeing as they are happening, I thought I would start a dedicated thread here in the Traction &...
