RDG trial/Budget announcement: 26-30 Railcard from Spring 2018

The trial seemingly excludes any 'N' postcodes, despite several having Greater Anglia services - N9 (Edmonton Green), N15 (Seven Sisters), N17 (Tottenham Hale and Northumberland Park) and N18 (Angel Road). However, I see Greater Anglia are now actively promoting the 26-30 Railcard trial on...

    Broxbourne Junction passenger announcements

This morning I was travelling on a northbound London - Cambridge service (Class 379 operated). Shortly after departure from Broxbourne, the driver began an announcement which was along the lines of 'Good morning - our train will shortly pass over Broxbourne Junction, where the route to Hertford...

RDG trial/Budget announcement: 26-30 Railcard from Spring 2018

It's been billed as the whole Greater Anglia area, hence my confusion. I tweeted Rail Delivery Group, and they've since confirmed that SG13 will be eligible for the trial - so it must have been an error in their press release.

RDG trial/Budget announcement: 26-30 Railcard from Spring 2018

I'm slightly dismayed, as an SG13 resident (closest station Hertford East), to see no mention of any SG postcodes being within the trial area. Most of SG9-SG14 - covering the area from Hertford/Ware up to Buntingford - is in Greater Anglia Land. Has anyone spotted other parts of the Greater...

    Being on a train alone?

Certainly the afternoon train back to Carnoustie is relatively well used - whilst it's the only northbound train of the day that stops at Golf Street etc, Carnoustie is a reasonably large town.

Trivia - Stations where boarding/alighting is local door only

Newton St Cyres in Devon. The platform is long enough to accommodate 3-car trains, but extremely low - trains stop with the back door adjacent to the 'Harrington Hump', and only that door opens.

Usage of Combe / Finstock / Ascott Under Wychwood / Shipton railway stations.

For stations only served once a day, the usage figures actually seem pretty reasonable. Last summer (on separate days, such is the timetable!) I travelled on the afternoon service from Combe - Finstock and Ascott-under-Wychwood - Shipton. I was the only passenger boarding at Combe, although I...

    Birmingham to Plymouth 6th November

Rail replacement services at New Street depart from outside the street-level entrance to TK Maxx on Smallbrook Queens way. There will be signage, but given the size of New Street these can be easy to miss amongst everything else. The 09.30 is likely to consist of 2 or 3 separate coaches, and I'd...

    New Jubilee Line Announcements

Isn't this the same voice artist as before, just re-recorded?

    GTR ticket office changes

I normally shudder when I read RMT scaremongering (so extreme it hurts the staff they claim to protect, IMO) but this lot of proposals is quite different and seems very drastic. I wouldn't doubt that there are stations in the Oyster area where a more modern role for the ticket office couldn't...

    New Liverpool Street lines timetable

Last time I checked, there's about 5,000 homes coming forward at Meridian Water. Potentially 10,000 in Tottenham as a whole - but 5,000 of those are at Tottenham Hale (i.e. more likely to be Victoria Line users), with a couple of thousand around Seven Sisters and a couple of thousand up the High...

    Dogs on Rail Replacement Buses

You'll find that whilst the NRCoC specifically prohibits the carriage of dogs on rail replacement services, most staff coordinating rail replacement services will have no problem and do what they can to encourage reluctant bus/coach drivers to take them if there's a problem. Very similar with bikes.

Forthcoming All Line Rover - Any benefit which company to book with?

FGW at Oxford happily (albeit with some confusion as to why I'd want it) issued me a reservation for the Sleeper from Arrochar & Tarbert to Bridge of Orchy last weekend with no charge. Hadn't realised it was policy to!

    Trivia: Two changes from London?

All stations on Merseyrail's Northern Line apart from Liverpool South Parkway, unless you count walking from Liverpool Central to Liverpool Lime Street (rather than changing at Moorfields and Liverpool Lime Street) as a single change.

Platform Lengths on the Cumbrian Coast

Very interesting - I was sat at Askam for half an hour whilst similar click-wheeling was going on! Interesting to hear on-the-ground discussions about where the stopping point would have to be in relation to the signal and level crossing (where the Network Rail chap was indicating that the...

    Rail Replacement Bus Status

This bus is the 07.28 from Manchester Piccadilly - AFAIK its been a bus every Sunday for several years and is run by the same operator each week, so should be pretty reliable. The timings for buses on that route are the same no matter what day or time of day, so you'll probably find the bus...

Correct approach to onward travel on disrupted journey with Oyster

Morning folks, A query relating to a journey I made last night. I'm not at all sure what the right course of action from staff should have been (and whether the one taken was right), and I'm wondering if anyone can suggest. My journey was St Erth to Enfield Chase - I was booked on the...
