Small Hidden Cameras at AHBC Crossings

Possibly, however given that this is an automatic half barrier crossing, which aren't interlocked with the signalling, there doesn't seem to be any benefit to having such a feature. This contrasts with the full barrier MCB-OD (manually controlled barriers with obstacle detection) crossings which...

Small Hidden Cameras at AHBC Crossings

On my travels, I happened to notice a strange arm sticking out in front of the wig-wag board at an automatic half barrier crossing. On closer inspection with streetview (https://goo.gl/maps/HgR8aZtUzaab2QyaA), it appears to have something pointing back towards the lights, so I assumed this was...

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine in sleeper compartment

I think the thing to start with (assuming it runs on standard 240V 50Hz mains) is what is the power consumption of the CPAP machine? From looking at pictures of the sleeper cabins, they seem to use the same style of shaver sockets that you see in bathrooms. These (almost always) contain an...

    Virgin Trains barriers?

Out of interest, does anyone know what, if anything, is encoded on the magnetic strip of the reservation?

The 'Technologically Unskilled' at TVM Only Stations

Hi again, There's been some really helpful and interesting suggestions and ideas here. Thanks very much! The idea about having a virtual ticket office function on a TVM is great (alas I feel, unlikely to be implemented), and the local ideas given by Baxenden Bank (yes Silverdale...

The 'Technologically Unskilled' at TVM Only Stations

Indeed. I have purchased Advance tickets for them in the past (using my card) and collected them myself (at Lancaster), then been paid back in cash. Thanks for making me aware of the possibility of the appointment of a financial Power of Attorney DaveNewcastle, I will indeed consider this for...

The 'Technologically Unskilled' at TVM Only Stations

As stated before, this is not an immediate issue as their local station (Silverdale) has no TVM. I absolutely agree though that if it gets one, or if they travel and find themselves near a TVM only station, contacting the TOC is the best way to proceed (contacting them now would involve picking...

The 'Technologically Unskilled' at TVM Only Stations

Thanks, it's useful to know the TOCs policy on such matters and relieving to hear that discretion is instructed. Thankfully, at the moment, their local station is unstaffed with no TVM; however things may change or they might need to travel when visiting other relatives where this is not the...

The 'Technologically Unskilled' at TVM Only Stations

Having read the last couple of threads devoted to discussing whether or not a card only ticket vending machine constitutes an opportunity to pay (in circumstances where the passenger wishes to pay by cash), another, somewhat similar, matter has been brought to mind. Some relatives of mine are...

    Odd Level Crossing

Ah, thank you for the pointer, I've found the thread on the signalbox forum (are links to other forums permitted?) and also with a bit more digging I've found this photo: https://secure.flickr.com/photos/faversham-gallery/4910138537/ which shows it's actually a red, yellow and green lamp. How...

    Odd Level Crossing

Hi, I stumbled across this the other day on Google Maps. It's on the seldom used Quayside lines at Workington: http://goo.gl/maps/qBilH At first it seems like a pretty standard open level crossing without traffic signals, but on moving forwards a bit and looking left, we see this...

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Thanks for the advice, I'll bear it in mind for next time. It's cost me £3.30 extra, which isn't all that significant, just annoying. Thanks Once Again!

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Dammit! The fare's gone up now! Sorry for not listening to those that said to just buy it. That's really made me irritated with EC for not replying to my email, as that is what I've pretty much been waiting for. I guess I'll just buy it now before it goes up any more. Thanks for your help...

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Thanks for the advice, but both of these options result in a total price higher than if I bought the Cambridge to Carnforth advance though Transpennine Express (£9.90).

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Yeah, I am wary that the fare may will disappear altogether / increase in the near future, but I'm sure you'll understand that it would be really irritating to go and book it then get a useful reply from EC / find a solution the next day (as sod's law states will happen :p ). I've tried all...

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Nope, just the once advance ticket was indicated. I've done the exact same journey before for the same fare, but booked it through Transpennine Express (so didn't get the 10% off). The East Coast website does allow me to buy an Anytime or Off Peak for that particular journey, just not an Advance.

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, ticking the four boxes, specifying "Via Leeds" or "Via Skipton" still doesn't seem to work. Although it does produce a £8.80 advance fare, it is for Cambridge to Ely, then Ely to Peterborough, then Peterborough to Leeds, then Leeds to Carnforth (NRE shows...

    WebTIS Non-Existant Fares

Hi there! This is my 1st post and I'm wondering if I can get a little help. I am trying to buy a ticket from Cambridge to Carnforth for Saturday 17th March. Having looked on the National Rail Enquiries Website, I found an advance fare of £9.90 (with a 16-25 railcard) for a train from...
