    Merseyside: New stations planned

Hooton would much better serve those in south west Wirral looking to park and ride. It also has 2tph better connections to east Wirral and direct connections to the Ellesmere port branch. What would a diagram look like though does anyone know the dwell times each end of the Chester Euston...

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

Went trawling through the thread but cant find an answer Does anyone know what's to become of the redundant bore once farnsworth tunnel is finished? Once the works complete and both lines are in the enlarged one is it just going to be bricked up?

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

It's not been raised but it is a substantially cheaper option then electrification of a line that currently has shockingly poor provision. It doesn't work for the other branches especial ellsmere port helsby, that would be best served by additional third rail and an extra EMU on merseyrails next...

    Brunswick station, Merseyrail.

Suppose they may do that once the new trains are brought in.

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

It would be a 20 min layover at wrexham, making an hourly service, to Liverpool around the loop and back stopping at every station would take 158min. Wrexham> bidston 62 min, bidston> lime street 17min, line street > bidston > 17min Bidston> Wrexham 62 min. 62+17+17+62=158 Hourly needs a unit...

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

Ellesmere port-Helsby and Kirkby-Wigan also, but when i tried running numbers i could get it to work nicely you end up displacing more EMUs than DMUs or useing way too many extra units. Unless you ran fast ormskirk, sandhils that might work, I've no way of working that out though. Imo extending...

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

ideally three units, two units currently run an hourly service bidston Wrexham but in reality this isn't adequate as the run officially takes 62 min so hawden bridge is skipped by most trains and delays are constant. It takes 34 min to run bidston to Liverpool and back. So it seems we're...

    Wales RUS consultation published

Viva rail have bought the D78s and are converting them to diesel. Wonder if a few could be made bi modal.

    Brunswick station, Merseyrail.

I was sat in the tunnels between moorfeilds and Liverpool central yet again the other day and it occurred to me could Brunswick offer a cheaper more realistic alternative than rebuilding central? The current problem is that central is a through station for the southport hunts cross line, but...

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

These are DC as of now right? How viable would it be to make some bimodals 3rd rail/ diesel. If this was possible what about the boarderlands line. It would be cheaper than electrification and allow through running to Liverpool while freeing up two DMUs for the assembly's plans to add more...

Trivia: Stations with too many/not enough platforms

Rock ferry has 2 and 2 in a bay that isn't really needed but is used for stabling. Liverpool central could do with more desperately to keep the terminators out of the way, not sure if Brunswick could squeeze in a north facing bay and just run the terminators one more stop.

    Platform Construction Costs

I've worked freight only rail tracks and on container terminal crane rails with straddle carriers the size of houses running around. Not comparable to a 125mph line or anything but we somehow needed twice as much PPE on the rail tracks.

Do you support High Speed 3?

i'd love to see it, makes the 20 miles more case even stronger. If a liverpool spur cant be justified just on HS2 it can certainly be justified if it's used for both HS2 and HS3

    Merseyside: New stations planned

RE: the freight lines bootle branch and north Mersey branch getting brought in. Can lime street handle it? If north Mersey is going to the northern line isn't that just making even more lopsided. the seems to be no capacity east of south parkway also can they get the rolling stock for such things.

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

Isnt there a stopper that finishes in chester? Alternately run a couple marches services into lime street and extend the london Chester train along the coast.

    What should stations be like?

Entrances at both ends! It would lots of people a lot of time and help congestion, I'm not at all bitter about having to double back both ends of my commute honest. (Birkenhead central, Bootle oriel road) In bootle you have to cross a bridge then exit the station then go under a tunnel to get...

    HS2 to Merseyside

There would have to be tunnel almost immediately out of exchange diving straight down as the northern line rises until it reaches the outer loop where it can emerge, then it would need new tunnels around broad green. Lime street would need a tunnel almost immediately then once it passes edge...

    HS2 future northern extensions

It will be a Westminster promise I imagine, I'd bet on a "if you vote to leave this doesn't happen" implication.
