You look like you might be wearing your rose tinted specs too much TDK. In my experience there are plenty of drivers recruited in 'the good old days' with a list of incidents as long as your arm to their name. In the modern world if you apply for any worthwhile job or career you will be expected...

    Thameslink Trainee Vacancies

Almost certain there will be more. Check as regularly as you can as GTR seem to be slightly more sensible in their approach to this than FCC in as much as when they have enough applicants it is taken off the website rather than be overwhelmed by applications.

    Depot Driver

I disagree entirely with the above. Of course practising for something will surely improve your performance mother nature made us that way. It is true that someone TOTALLY unsuitable will probably not pass whatever they do but for the rest of us then it's obvious to me that practising will...

    Group Bourdon Tool

Everyone I know says the paper based test is easier. But as the old saying goes the more I practised the luckier I got. My advice is don't go too fast you will hear others marking their papers with a pencil at a rate you probably won't be able to keep up with don't worry they'll soon be on the...

    Trainee Driver Course

For what its worth I applied for a trainee driver position during 2011 and started in September 2012. I used this very useful forum but didn't know anyone on the inside so I found the company I think you are talking about. No courses were running at the time I needed it so I bought their book...

Am I realistically too old for a tainee drivers job !?!

Definately not. I got a trainee depot drivers job at 55 and am starting a mainline training course with the same company next year aged 56. Just put in at least as much effort as the younger guns and you should have a good chance. Ask yourself if someone half your age can match your experience.

How important is your age AND your address?

I cant really comment on the issue of address but let me offer a word of encouragement on age. I applied for a trainee depot driver position at 54 got the job and started recently aged 55. It can be done go for it and make the most of your experience.

    You can beat those odds.

I couldnt agree more. Practice again and again. You cannot change who you are but you can certainly increase your chances. There were people on my assessments who had done little or no preperation they soon went home. In spite of the huge number of applicants a lot give themselves little chance...

    Yes you can !

Dan, The offer came about a week and a half after the medical, I think they have to wait a few days for the result of the drug test. I don't suppose the medical is anything out of the ordinary but i've not done anything similar before so I have nothing to compare it with. From memory it...

    Yes you can !

I felt the reaction test was by far the hardest. I am a little older than most that will do it and I felt that would be a disadvantage. There are various reaction tests on the net that I practised and managed to get an 'average' result which was perhaps the most I could expect at my age (54)...

    Yes you can !

FCC. Bedford Cauldwell. The process is hard but I put in a ridiculous amount of time preparing, weather I could have done it with less I'll never know. To anyone who thinks they might wing it I say you won't. The tests are difficult to sum up. They seem very well thought out and should...

    Yes you can !

:DThis is meant as a word of encouragement to everyone out there struggling through the recruitment process. I applied for a job as a trainee depot driver in November last year. I probably didn't really realise what I was getting into if I'm honest. As time has passed I learnt that the job...

    Structured interview for drivers

In my case it was purely previous experiences, the role and the company was covered in the final managers interview. But never a bad idea to give yourself an idea just in case they throw you a curve ball.

    Structured interview for drivers

I did mine in January, my advice is leave no stone unturned in your preperation. You can easily find the type of questions you are likely to be asked on here think carefully about the subjects. You will first need to write your answers to the questions there is enough time to do this but not...

    On Hold

I have been on hold for a different TOC since early Feb, it seems a funny way to run a business.

    FCC Update?

It has gone all quiet on the FCC front for me, anyone else heard anything ?

    Staff discounted travel

Sam, I had my final interview in Jan and was told I'd passed in Feb but still not in mate so patience is indeed a virtue for us in this position.
