On a day of sombreness you have made my day.

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

5907/5918 now off lease. Definitely not looking good for 5918. It's been harvested.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

I don’t think it’s the drivers position itself so it was ‘safe’ for testing. I thought the issue was with the other driving seat position which would be an issue for a DI or DM with a driver or trainee on assessment or learning……

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

Comparing yesterday to 29/11. 455 12 more available. 456 12 less available. (net increase in 24 coaches) 458 Same on both days curiously. But long stay units starting to come back together. A quick flick through the thread mentions units returning to use and others being taken from the sidings...

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

Have you not noticed the number of 455s and 458s that have been reactivated though since? Redistribution of 456 technicians has helped do this. The amount of staff off because of COVID is still affecting the railway. There are probably financial and political pressures up top but at the ground...

Should SWR’s class 701 Aventra order be cancelled?'

ABDO supposedly works from track balises rather than a driver button. there will also be a dwell time gain by the driver opening and shutting the doors rather than the guard. I hope it isn’t like the District Line model where they seem to just hang on long enough to close it right in your face...

Should SWR’s class 701 Aventra order be cancelled?'

They won’t pay in full for a unit, until a unit is accepted and furthermore meets an agreed reliability metric.

    SWR Metro fleet permanent withdrawals

120 required, 119 available. This mornings disruption due to poor conductor rail conditions means the diagrams are all in a less where units should meet and couple are out of position and haven’t

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

If you make a software change, want to make sure everything else still works.

Westminster City Council demand immediate end to Class 68 operation into Marylebone due to pollution

I agree @Greybeard33 . My experience of Marylebone would point the finger at the DMUs. The locos are usually away from the roof. Under the roof where the units are stacked before the pm peak is where the air is choking.

Why don't trains in Great Britain use eddy current brakes?

On a 10 car Voltage drop can be into the 19s at the far end of the formation. On top of everything else hanging off the system added after the units were designed. I wouldn't be so sure before being confident of this.

    SWR Class 455 Status

It’s in the sidings to the two fifths of 8504 are on 16 road which is a short siding in front of the bogie drop, the building in the top right of the aerial photo. The other three fifths are in the lift shop 12 road. 8529 is in top yard on 20 road, it might be seen from the gym steps (noting...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Only the 350/1s are pure dual voltage out of the box I thought. And TSSSA wasn’t referencing the union of the same acronym but a Technical Support & Spares Supply Agreements for Rolling Stock between SWR, Porterbrook and Alstom.

    SWR Class 455 Status

Trust me it wasn’t. I found an issue on it last year and it hasn’t moved since.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Don’t think Siemens would be very happy with a fleet being maintained outside. Especially if they do well, putting their contract at risk. Plus we won’t see 350/2s until 730s are in. And I wouldn’t imagine that would be until after all 701s are running. Not sure when that would be. Bournemouth...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

With what spares. That’s why most are laid up. Then the depot are busting a gut to keep the ones that are running in traffic meaning the long players stay on the sidelines gradually losing even more parts.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

    Class 707 to Southeastern Dates

The Class 700 is set up differently - the formation of an 8 car is M-T-M-T-T-M-T-M, if you did the same for 707 it would be M-T-T-T-T-T-T-M leaving it underpowered as on the driving vehicles on 707 are motored.
