Question about a trip to the Arctic - time of year

What an amazing selection of responses. Thank you to all. No decisions yet.... other than it's definitely going to happen. I'm thinking late October, or early March 2025.

Question about a trip to the Arctic - time of year

Looking at various options for a trip to the Arctic Circle. Does anybody have experience doing it over the winter months? Looking to combine 'snow', Sleepers, etc, with at least some day light hours. All thoughts welcome, but please, not speculation. TIA.

    Anytime not [appearing] meaning Anytime??

OK. Thank you. I understand. Essentially the tickets are the same, it's the validity of the Senior Rail Card that's the issue.

    Anytime not [appearing] meaning Anytime??

I'm looking at Welwyn North to Gatwick in Jan for my mum (hence the Senior Railcard). I am offered an Anytime Return for £32.70 but suggests it can't be used on early morning return services. 09.19 is the first offered train. There is a second Anytime Return for £49.60 where earlier timed...

    The Coronation Deltic 19-08

I think you're preaching in the wrong forum if you think you're teaching anybody around here about 'service train timings', but 1 hour to Stevenage and 2 hours to Peterborough is particularly slow - even by charter train standards. I've known steam hauled services get faster timings than that...

Sorry. I agree with this sentiment. Does seem a little loooong!!!

What... 8am from King's Cross? What time would you expect it to run?

    RealTimeTrains website

Hi All, I live in Stevenage and travel to London frequently. However, trains from Stevenage use Moorgate, Kings Cross and St Pancras as destinations. Exclude Moorgate as I rarely, if ever, venture there. So how do I set two destinations up when searching for trains to London? I have tried...

Anybody know what happened with 1M16 last night. Seems it was delayed in Edinburgh for an hour or so. I'm on it tonight and just hoping there's no consequential issues.

    Deltic on the ECML 1Z55

Not sure what's wrong but if it doesn't get going soon they'll be quite a queue behind the Norwich>Liverpool train.

Still tickets left. Can't believe it's only £75 in first. Busy trying to make this work for me...!!

e-ticket reader rollout at Thameslink stations

Didn’t say it was. And when walking through as a group it’s quite easy. However, somebody might wish to use the toilet and need a ticket. Or may need something else that requires passing through the gate line. Who knows. Like I said, rarely a problem.

e-ticket reader rollout at Thameslink stations

Been at Stevenage for a long time. I use them almost every trip (once per week) with no problems at all. Rarely see others struggling but like all these type of things, not great for groups if all tickets are on one phone. Copying QR codes around a group is not easy.

Love this.... 1W16 today (16/2) King's Cross to Inverness

Left King's Cross, 12 late on a tight 4h22m timing to Edinburgh. Lost more time and got as far back as 17 down by Huntington. It's just reached Edinburgh only 1 late. Very impressive.
