E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

the "security validation" of the data that's already directly visible to the user on their screen/printed copy? lol... I'm outta here, I can't take this any more

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

    > but an e-ticket is a visible Aztec code and that means keeping the phone powered up the aztec code is one mechanism of transmitting the approx 100 bytes that encodes the ticket information in a machine readable state, suitable for optical readers to decode if you have radio equipment (NFC)...

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

bytes are bytes I've done extensive work with NFC (to the point of being granted patents) there's no reason this couldn't work (other than the usual rail industry being stuck 20 years in the past)

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

iphones have the option to allow contactless payments/travel passes to work even when the battery won't allow the phone to be turned on "express mode" https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/security/sec90cd29d1f/web no reason train company apps couldn't implement this

Greater Anglia to install tables on its Stansted Express trains

the 745s/755s are luxurious compared to the 720s unfortunately those of us in west anglia are stuck with them for the next 40 years though thinking positively as they're bombardier they probably won't last 10 (already some are rattling like crazy)

Greater Anglia to install tables on its Stansted Express trains

it's a shame the 379s were really very nice, I used to look forward to getting on the train and having a relaxing journey home in comfort (I didn't think I'd even miss the 317s but I guess you don't know what had until it's gone) the current experience is just awful, the seats are small, hard...

Greater Anglia to install tables on its Stansted Express trains

wonder if (... hoping that) a similar thing is planned for the longer distance 720s their current interior configuration is perfectly suitable for the inner London suburban services (max duration: 30 mins or so) but it's unsuitable for longer West Anglia journeys (e.g. from Cambridge) in two...

Less than 50% of delay repay being claimed

the delay repay claim websites seem to be deliberately awful the "Tracsis Travel Compensation Services Ltd" one is the worst, the giant text boxes have one very small area you have to click in to activate them and it requires something like 3 captchas to submit for my last claim had to step...

QR code scam in station car park

the legitimate apcoa connect app is so awful it feels like a scam as someone with a background in computer security its officialness always felt slightly off to me what the hell is apcoa? why has it not at least been white labelled with the train company's branding and behind e.g...

Long term social distancing: Impact on public life & public transport?

I'll very happily trade this for the privilege of having to pay £7000/year and waste 2 hours every day sitting on a train (even if I have to go in once every few weeks) and I suspect most commuters from the country into London think the same way bye bye TOC business models...

    Tissue begging on trains

there's been the same guy day in day out off-peak at whittlesford towards london doing this for 3 weeks now the TOC don't seem interested in dealing with it

Greater Anglia New Passenger Information Screens

was at Cambridge yesterday and it said a train to Stansted was going to go out of platform 6 which seemed unlikely given 6 is a bay platform facing the wrong way with the station building directly behind it at Bishops Stortford they also kept saying trains that the Stratford service would be...

    Greater Anglia legal Action?

it's them putting up the car park prices by 60% this year that annoyed me, I've gone from going in three/four times a week peak to two off-peak I'm not the only one too... last year parking was difficult on days other than Monday/Fridays, now it's easy every single day nice own goal there in...

    Contactless declined

depends on what part of the industry... if you are one of a large firm's internal software development teams you obviously have a very different relationship to the "customer" to that of an external firm that has work outsourced to it no worries!

    Contactless declined

never said it was (though, as someone who has actually read the rather large EMV spec, there's probably quite a few lying in there :)) yes! that was my original point: (and by bank you mean card issuer)
  17. C

    Contactless declined

keep reading... let me quote it for you: as a software engineer who works for a bank: if I had authored a spec that omitted the rather significant detail that people may attempt to use their contactless cards to make large purchases abroad, which was then implemented, then a few months later...

    Contactless declined

what a defensive response! was that your oversight? (jk) a bug is the incorrect resultant behaviour the fact that causal factor might be the configuration rather than the implementation doesn't mean that it isn't a bug specifications can also contain bugs, if they don't match the...

    Contactless declined

depends what the software on the chip has been programmed to do, might very well vary between issuer they are not bug free either, there was that rather infamous bug where the contactless floor limit didn't apply to any transactions in a foreign currency... whoops

Greater Anglia switch from Ringgo to Dash Parking

the dash site is beyond awful I was browsing to see how much parking was at my local station for the next day, pressed some innocuous sounding button and it charged my card without first saying how much it was going to be wasn't too happy, though they did refund it the phone service is...
