    ESR at Bridlington

At Bridlington there's an emergency speed restriction for a mile or more northwards to Sewerby. It's along an embankment through the town, presumably some form of cyclic top problem.

    Commuting 'not coming back': Harper

The official figures show rail use is at 100% of pre pandemic levels. https://twitter.com/philatrail/status/1635955580522184707?t=9QE3HYd4-3lr-v3FLAjWjA&s=19 As for TPE, the service is so dire and unpredictable that many passengers have simply abandoned travel with them. 6 hr service gaps...

Why did the NYMR not save the line from Pickering To Malton?

Whitby running hugely increased passenger numbers. Many afternoon departures from Whitby were full and standing before covid. At war weekend the first morning departure from Whitby would load over 350. It's been a thumping success.

Countries with Metre Gauge and 3 ft 6 inch Gauge networks with big loading gauges?

Metre gauge on the RhB has smaller trains but the interiors are quite spacious, more spacious in feel than some UK stock. Capacity is achieved by longer trains on rural routes. Certainly travelling on the RhB is a far superior experience in terms of comfort and ambience than more cramped DMUs...

    Cleethorpes platform refurbishment

I see that platform 4 (formerly 5) at Cleethorpes is being rebuilt for passenger use. Presumably, platform 1 will take the Azuma and 4 will allow TPE loco hauled sets to access the depot more easily? Does anyone know more?

    Double track line rationalisation cost/benefits

Bridlington to Hunmanby was singled in 73. Ten miles of single track caused problems from day one. The section is too long. Later in the 80s Filey to Seamer was singled. After 84, various further schemes were planned that would have singled between Driffield and Beverley and Malton to York...

    York main NB/SB platforms

The old double bay for Harrogate was a very useful arrangement. I'm told the position of a new turnout to restore the lost bay would be very difficult due to other pointwork close by. After electrification it was common to stand outside from both North and South whilst platforms became clear...

Re-doubling of single track lines or reinstatement of passing loops

Yes, it does. With crossovers at both ends of a loop, simultaneous arrivals are possible. The dynamic bit is the flexibility in timing possible due to the significant long length, enabling trains to run at linespeed and the ability to admit a second train into section if required. Horses for...

Re-doubling of single track lines or reinstatement of passing loops

Dynamic means trains can run into both ends of the loop at the same time. Basically like a double section with suitable overlaps etc. Depending on arrangements, a following train can also be accepted.

    December 2022 Timetable Changes

Seamer connections are often a cause for anxiety if there's late running. From December the York bound xx34 ex Scarborough is retimed to xx48 Slightly longer journey but more robust connections with passengers going through to Scarborough to change if all on time. The Sunday hanging around at...

Service resumes at midday after two days off. Throughout the heatwave trains have run between York and Scarborough in higher temperatures. TPE cancelled all Hull to Manchester trains yesterday, but Northern ran to Leeds using the same rails.
