    WCML north disruption 19/05/2023

Going to say that dumping three to four full Pendolinos at Carlisle at 4pm and only starting to make announcements about the followup services at 6pm has not been well managed. The control choice to terminate the services here might have been guided, but as a passenger, even knowing and...

    WCML north disruption 19/05/2023

Is there an outright operational reason they keep stopping services short? A double train load going to Glasgow which had managed to leave Preston has just been dumped at Carlisle, for example.

    WCML north disruption 19/05/2023

Caught up in this today at Preston since 1041. Train staff said that they tried to move the train under it's own power, but then had fitters out. Either way, seemed catastrophic as it took near five hours to rescue it.

Travelling in London with a "Underground Zone 1" destination

I have a ticket booked by my travel admin. It is from Maryport to London Underground Zone 1 - I requested Tower Hill as a destination. I don't understand the London Underground Zone 1 destination - does that meant the ticket can be used for travel from Euston To Tower Hill? Also, as an...

Van Hits Pedestrians near Finsbury Park Mosque

Well, without knowing the exact location of the person's residence, let's take the census and see what are the chances? According to the 2011 Census (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_United_Kingdom)... So there is a 25.7% chance he is ascribed to no religion, or 32.9% if we...

Wikipedia Bans Daily Mail as 'Unreliable' Source

In what way? I would imagine that the EU comapnies looking to trade with us in that scenario would, quite rightly, simply increase the price that we have to pay at the "checkout" for the goods that have had the tarriffs applied to, making us likely to be net losers, not winners. There is very...

    Glasgow airport link

This is ture. Additionally, if the rolling stock has to be BR standards of crash worthiness for mainline running how can they afford to buy all new bespoke stock in that budget too?

    Glasgow airport link

Neither would the tram only run from PGS - it is proposed to run from Central, which the 500 passes on the way out of the city. I too found the 500 to be pretty brilliant when I've used it.

    Differences in local recycling schemes

Allerdale (in Cumbria) - Black bin, collected weekly, for general waste. - Purple bags, collected fortnightly, for tins, glass, plastics - Green wheelie bin, collected fortnightly, for carboard and paper. It is worse than my previous home in Burnside (South Lanarkshire) - Green bin for...

    Appealing unpaid fare notice

Exactly what I was thinking. A good result in the end for you, and once again confirmation of this forum's consensus being powerful.

The inspector took my ticket and railcard, what exactly are waiting for me?

I personally believe that you're out of line for even suggesting this. Not only is it immaterial to the subject at hand, it's arrogant to say the least. If the visa allows working during studies (which it does) who are you to judge someone on their choice to work during their studies, and then...

    Edinburgh Tram developments

Rode it for the first time yesterday as part of my father's day surprise. Was pleasantly surprised at how well it was rode and how nice it was. Funnily enough, as we stood waiting on a Airport bound tram at St Andrews Square a lady asked the ticket conductor, who was awaiting the arrival of...

    Alton Towers incident

Alton Towers have admitted full responsibility for the event, and have encouraged all affected in writing to seek lawyers to help with damages and compensation claims. This suggests that operator error might have played a massive role in the incident. Or, of course, it could be a way for Alton...

    Alton Towers incident

As someone who spent years studying the design of roller coasters before choosing an engineering discipline elsewhere I have a lot of interest in this incident as it seems to have been either a computer control malfunction or operator error (or indeed, both concurrently). To assess incidents...
