    Ordsall Chord

I thought that was evident from my post, this earlier journey is being shown on National Rail Enquiries (as well as realtraintimes).

    Ordsall Chord

The first Northern passenger train on December 10th over the Chord is now showing an 08:40 service from Victoria to Oxford Rd, returning at 08:57 to Leeds. NRE suggests a Cheshire Day Rover at £23 is required for the Victoria to Oxford Rd journey! I hope fares between Manchester stations are...

Latest RAIB report - Newcastle Central

I see you continue to call this behaviour stupid, but it seems quite commonplace to me that passengers attempt to board trains as doors are closing/have closed, fortunately rarely succeding nowadays. It seems to me to be a common impulsive behaviour, by no means confined to stupid people. If...

    Todmorden Curve

My comment was tongue in cheek. Anyway only one one of the TPE services stopped, the other ran non-stop to Leeds. All Calder Valley stations, even Bradford and Halifax which lost their fast Leeds to Manchester service, suffered cuts in services which caused some chaos in the rush hours.

Latest RAIB report - Newcastle Central

Well the report is clear. The correct process was not followed. Both the train designers and TPE were aware of the problem with the doors but did little about it. I'm afraid the willingness of some on this forum to blame passengers or society at large for the faults of the railway industry...

Well yes - line speed enhancements were originally part of CP4, so they were by no means new when they were "announced" as part of the Northern Hub - it just meant they had been postponed for two years (or more). It strikes me that if the good citizens of Burnley get their pacer in 2015, they...

    Todmorden Curve

Having just looked at the CP5 delivery plan it seems that the Calder Valley services are going to be seeing quite a bit of disruption over the next few years. (1) Line speed improvements (due as part of the Northern Hub) along with a package of other enhancements/renewals to be implemented...

The North Transpennine Core: a quart in a pint pot?

I'm apologise to 61653 HTAFC for continuing this widely off topic discussion in his thread but he is absolutely correct that only the UK has such a bizzare sytem where cities are declared by royal decree. Under this ludicrous system Ripon is a city whereas that capital of ours down south with a...

What changes should happen in the Manchester area once Ordsall Chord opens?

I'm confused too. My initial post mentioned only the Northern Hub and most definitely did include a Southport-Airport service. While this was only an example timetable it did contain the 8 principal corridors for which Network Rail were required to provide Airport services (Leeds (min 2tph)...

What changes should happen in the Manchester area once Ordsall Chord opens?

The document assumes the electrification of at least the Blackpool and Liverpool routes. None of these changes to Airport services (not knowing the output of the review) mean breaching the requirements of the Northern Hub project that I posted. The withdrawal of the Southport/Piccadilly/Airport...

What changes should happen in the Manchester area once Ordsall Chord opens?

The requirement for the Northern Hub for services to the Airport was for "direct services of at least hourly interval service frequency in each of the principal corridors (30 minutes in the case of the Yorkshire and the Humber and North East via Leeds corridor)…(p45 of this document) The gap...

Bradford Passengers Livid as Ministers Refuse to Scrap 'Hated' Pacers

Paul, while I'm not normally one to defend Northern Rail, Lancashire County Council's and Burnley's bid submission was based heavily on the rosy report prepared for them by Colin Buchanan consultants which reportedly produced a wildly optimistic BCR by assuming operating costs would be 25% of...

The North Transpennine Core: a quart in a pint pot?

Oh dear sorry for the upset. My post didn't say it was, it mentioned the Golden Triangle in addition to Ripon. Where - provide a link and I'll believe you. In any case Select Committees routinely publish most submissions made to them, it does not mean that they consider the submission...

The North Transpennine Core: a quart in a pint pot?

Exactly where does the Transport Select Committee say this??? Google soon tells me that the so-called "Leeds Northern Railway Reinstatement Group" were 1 of 127 groups submitting evidence to the Transport Committee's report on "Passenger transport in isolated communities". And the...

The North Transpennine Core: a quart in a pint pot?

Has a Manchester to Newcastle service via Harrogate ever been proposed by any official body (local/central government or sponsored by government, Network Rail, TOC, User Group etc) ?

The North Transpennine Core: a quart in a pint pot?

As I said its not only is it possible to run the planned services, but its also possible to squeeze a couple of more in, but anyway ........... yes sure in a perfect world with an infinite budget you could do all sorts of things to improve punctuality. But is it necessary? Overall TPE's and...

Northern to introduce evening peak restrictions

Sorry to get so far off topic, but this misconception really annoys me, "realize" is the preferred British English spelling of the Oxford English Dictionary , although "realise" is equally acceptable. The use of "realize" predates "realise" by a 100 years or so. There are of course many verbs...

The North Transpennine Core: a quart in a pint pot?

There was one Saturday earlier this year when due to engineering works between Halifax and Bradford there were two extra Calder Valley trains per hour running fast from Brighouse to Leeds as well as the existing stopper. So 7tph plus 2 stoppers between Mirfield and Leeds, with no problems I saw.

Possibly there's no money to staff the station until the agreement between lancashire County Council and Northern rail is signed. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Well its not, but LCC are the project managers and it is up to them to co-ordinate the completion of separate...
