Trivia - disused passenger stations that are still used for rail purposes?

Does Manchester Liverpool Road count, being part of the Science and Industry Museum?

Train company NOT booking rail replacement buses

I'm sure abandoned journeys due to cancellation yield a 100% refund for the leg.

What was the last change you were genuinely excited about?

    Arriva losing the Northern franchise.

Ketech Cellia Drummond and Only Woman announcements publicly availible?

It's great to finally see some info about the circus trumpet, I always used to wonder about that. It was used to annnounce fast trains through platforms -you'd hear it quite a lot at New Cross Gate (as the fast lines had seldom used platform faces there) and East Croydon. TPE's in-house system...

Luggage on trains… bikes now take priority?

Agree that cycle spaces shouldn't have tip up seats, it used to be an utter pain on TPE, between luggage and having to ask people to move - I have had people refuse and become aggressive before. The guards were all too happy to chuck you out of the disabled space on 185s and send you to the...

    Celia Drummond replacement

They should just hire Jon Briggs to do everything and be done with it.

    Northern contract and Business Commitments

I'd be very glad to see the back of 150s, but I think a well sorted 156 is passable (I'm sure I read they like to rust away though). The two car thing is annoying as two car trains simply aren't big enough for the needs of the network any more: what's wrong with larger units and SDO?

    TfGM Bus franchising

https://twitter.com/officialtfgm/status/1674011056862011393 PIDs (passenger information displays) finally on trial for GM bus stops - so we can imagine a rollout in what, 2025? . Why this even needs trialling baffles me as much as the fact they even considered a flip dot display over...

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

Not much to see there now, since all the Transpennine OHLE gantries were put up.

Rail station outlets face clampdown on rip-off prices

Stalybridge has never had anything except independent retail - the P1-3 waiting room has a small refreshment stall in it (does that still operate?) to replace the previous one, and the buffet bar is just a local pub. SSP were never involved. Yes it did: it closed long before the arena bombing...

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

To that end, the Glossop line. Utterly miserable until Broadbottom.

    Could Northern's branding be improved?

Moderator note: split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/tpe-franchise-to-move-to-olr.248432/ It'd be nice if Northern could get a brand image and livery designed with an actual budget for once, their livery is the worst in the country by a long shot. No more App Store, no more...

Negative perception of booking offices and clerks

The staff at Stalybridge haven't changed in a very, very long time - I can recall one member of staff that's been there since the old car park and station building were still there, and the Quickfare machine. I've never found them to be particularly pleasant or helpful, they're usually outwardly...

    EMR class 156s for Northern

I failed to take this seriously the moment I saw that the proposal is basically Picc-Vic.

    Future of the 350/2s...

Finish electrifying to Stalybridge and have them replace 2x150s on Southport-Stalybridge, and 323s on Hadfield :D

How could devolution of Greater Manchester rail services be carried out?

They have that already, in the form of slapping Metrolink tracks anywhere the residents won't NIMBY it out of existence: ie low income, predominantly industrial, or new build areas. We have the 2008 congestion charge referendum to thank for that, instead of a C-charge, TfGM got a load of money...

How could devolution of Greater Manchester rail services be carried out?

What's the remaining lifespan of 150s? Could devolved power for GM give them any say in the spec of a potential replacement?

the last EUS-MAN is 10pm on a weekday? That sounds unreasonably early.
