Partner couldn't travel - Two together railcard - UFN

OP was advised to post here on Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/LegalAdviceUK/comments/1kgv499/unpaid_fare_notice_on_train_because_partner/ OP has been repeatedly advised that they are in direct breach of the Railcard terms. OP, you need to pay the UFN. There is no counter argument.

    End of GBRTT

I asked about this last month: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/northern-contract.282336/

    End of GBRTT

They're keeping it all quiet for some reason. Northern's franchise expired on 1/3, so they're effectively running as GBR, but there's no evidence of anything anywhere at all - the old franchise ended, and... that's it.

    Revenue Protection at Brighton

Sad to hear things haven't progressed. I once had a Northern in-house revenue agent ask me 'how do you know about that' in an accusatory tone because I mentioned a zero fare excess while they were trying to accuse me of overtravelling: I wasn't, I had a valid ticket.

Ex-TfW 150s could be put to good use at ScotRail

150 is the new 142. They're barely fit for purpose anywhere, are old, noisy, and fast approaching life expiry. They need replacing.

    Livery under Great British Railways

I don't understand why the expiry of Northern's direct award (tonight, as it happens) isn't being used as a springboard for GBR. The Northern livery is low budget, tacky, and badly tainted - I think it'd be fantastic PR for them to finally put 'Northern' to rest. Re-livery some 195s, give the...

    Northern contract?

Northern's direct award expires on Saturday. But there's no franchise any more, and it's already with the DfT, so what happens? It all seems a bit quiet. Why no GBR? Will we see the back of Arriva's branding any time soon? Guessing unfortunately not.

Bikes on trains - do I have priority over somebody sat in the bike storage area?

This is a problem on some 150/2s as the "cycle space" isn't long/wide enough to fit a bike in - it's a weird deep space with a 'wall' around it and a folding seat at the back, on the back of the vestibule wall - you have to manoeuvre the bike past the vestibule wall, then put it in the space...

Trivia: Most out of date livery

It's probably because Northern was taken over by the DfT rather than a private company that might have more of a budget for that, as well as potential for the DfT to be criticised for vanity projects: even if people did in fact want a distict rebranding of Northern as a symbolic gesture, someone...

Trivia: Most out of date livery

2004/5? I remember freshly painted 455s and NSE liveried 456s replacing the CIGs.

Replacement buses, why don't they call at the advertised stops at times shown?

Not in my experience, you'd buy a ticket for the train as normal then it may or may not get checked as you board/leave the bus. One morning a couple of years ago I arrived at Stalybridge, planning to travel to Whyteleafe (a rather long journey via Manchester Piccadilly, and the Underground). I...

Does Manchester Liverpool Road count, being part of the Science and Industry Museum?

Train company NOT booking rail replacement buses

    Arriva losing the Northern franchise.

Ketech Cellia Drummond and Only Woman announcements publicly availible?

It's great to finally see some info about the circus trumpet, I always used to wonder about that. It was used to annnounce fast trains through platforms -you'd hear it quite a lot at New Cross Gate (as the fast lines had seldom used platform faces there) and East Croydon. TPE's in-house system...

Luggage on trains… bikes now take priority?

Agree that cycle spaces shouldn't have tip up seats, it used to be an utter pain on TPE, between luggage and having to ask people to move - I have had people refuse and become aggressive before. The guards were all too happy to chuck you out of the disabled space on 185s and send you to the...

They should just hire Jon Briggs to do everything and be done with it.

    Northern contract and Business Commitments

I'd be very glad to see the back of 150s, but I think a well sorted 156 is passable (I'm sure I read they like to rust away though). The two car thing is annoying as two car trains simply aren't big enough for the needs of the network any more: what's wrong with larger units and SDO?
