Delay - Repay claim partial rejection by Southern - opinion sought

I’ve noticed that the indication to the signalling system that a train has arrived/departed can be quite a stretch down the line. So how do we define the arrival time for Delay Repay? Is it when the signal is triggered or when the train is at platform and the doors are released? I’d say the...

Train running information. How does it work?

mods note - split from here. I’ve noticed that the indication to the signalling system that a train has arrived/departed can be quite a stretch down the line. So how do we define the arrival time for Delay Repay? Is it when the signal is triggered or when the train is at platform and the doors...

    Ryanair seat selection

Depending on your preference for a seat, you may be best rolling the dice on the ‘random’ seat allocation. You can see the seat map prior to check-in and can change seat (for a cost, of course) following check-in. The algorithm allocates middle seats first in my experience.

Reports of people leaving London to escape Tier 4 restrictions.

Arriving into St Pancras on Saturday evening for my weekly commute North, McDonald’s in tow, for the 2100, I was greeted by a massive crowd. Social distancing went out of the window as, not the crowd’s fault, there’s not enough room! Barriers locked and platform ‘pending’.* A ten minute wait...

Guard playing rave music in guard’s cab.

Are you asking if rave music specifically is permitted or music generally? Seems to be the former but perhaps you just have a problem with rave music and felt the need to be ever so specific. Look forward to clarification! PLUR

Scotrail Weekly Season Bought Onboard No Photocard Number

Oh right. When I used to purchase onboard, there was always a box for me to write in. Admittedly that was years ago and TOCs are using different appliances now. Perhaps worth writing on anyway in case the ticket goes missing.

Scotrail Weekly Season Bought Onboard No Photocard Number

The box should be empty for you to write number in.

    Ukraine (Kiev) Local Railways

Only travelled on the service to the airport when I was there at the beginning of the year. Clean and punctual also. I second the suggestion to visit the rail museum. Accessed via the platforms. The State Aviation Museum is also worth a visit. Visiting again in January and planning to tour...

Climate change is fake [mod warning - controversial topic - enter at your own risk]

If you say so. I’ve always wondered why climate change hasn’t been used to justify higher taxes. E.g. significant increase on petrol duty that could be directed towards investment in public transport infrastructure, in turn driving motorists towards using improved greener transport links

    Ticket activation

Not quite. My post is asking for clarification. It is possible that the poster may have an e-ticket. An e-ticket will show in the app as requiring download and activation like an m-ticket. If the poster had an e-ticket, then I think the point re activation is moot as a valid ticket will be sat...

    Ticket activation

Was your ticket definitely an m-ticket? If it was rather an e-ticket, then it’ll show up in apps as requiring download and activation. However, a PDF ticket will have been e-mailed to you.

Mother sues Network Rail over "silent trains" role in daughter's death

Glenn1969, what do you propose? A high wall along the entire rail network? Best put signs on the wall too: 1) please don’t climb, 2) may cause death if climb, 3) may cause death trespassing on railway, 4) please read the signs It’s a choice to put oneself in danger.

    Shamima Begum

At 15, she was old enough to know that her decision may end badly. It has. The child is innocent but I’d guess she’s using it as a shield. While I wouldn’t support evacuating her based on risk to life and that she likely has malicious intent, the child is another story as it’s at risk just...

    Leeds Station - Coffee Upgrades?

It’s the same coffee at Pumpkin, Ritazza and Upper Crust. Coffee - like most things actually - is a subjective thing anyways. People have different pallets. My preference will always be for a Starbucks. The only place I tend to avoid is Nero.

(Satire) "Stakes rising for woman with table seat on train"

I prefer to sit by myself where possible. However, if I get on a busy train and want to sit, then I’ll sit it in the first available seat. My first thought if I sat next to you specifically wouldn’t be that you are a weirdo, a woman or anything else. If you choose to think I’m a weirdo, a...

Pub set to open inside Norwich Station

Pumpkin is gone and replaced by M&S ( an SSP franchise, I guess) if that’s the coffee shop you refer to. Looks like the M&S doesn’t go all the way back though.

Might it have been to take picture of QR code on m-tickets ?

    Irish passport eligibilty

I’m curious as to what a prosperous UK outside the EU looks like? I was so concerned about an inward looking, week and wobbly UK, that in 2016 I applied for my Irish passport (plus the quite handy Passport Card). Sure, we’ll control our borders, so we’ll be able to introduce bureaucracy to who...

    Ely - Norwich speed restrictions

I'm hoping Network Rail have a plan in place to get repairs in place ASAP. Feels as if the line is in a decline at the moment with these multiple speed restrictions. Surely it'll only get worse if not repaired?

    Ely - Norwich speed restrictions

Certainly is more bouncy and wibbly! But it just doesn’t seem NR are doing anything to rectify. By end of year I’m worried we’ll be down to 10mph between Ely and Lakenheath! :D
