    Trivia: 3+ changes from York

Change once at Birmingham New Street? The Aberystwyth/Pwllheli train starts at Birmingham International. How about Lymington Town / Pier? Since most XC don't stop at Brockenhurst and no XC from York go beyond Reading you would need to do either: Kings Cross, London Waterloo, Brockenhurst or...

Neither entrance at Woking has been closed at any time for this work.

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

Yes, I am certain, "for the attention of the train crew" was the phrase used! It was also quite loud. It was a few years ago so unsure if they do this (or are allowed to) any more. I'll also add that this was in the midst of a spate of wrong-side opening at Guildford. For those unaware...

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

I've heard signallers announce to the train that the doors will open on the right hand side on arrival at Guildford (if they have routed the train into platforms 6/7 in the London direction) just before the train arrives (while it's in the tunnel).

[Trivia] Largest UK railway station to have a subway and/or footbridge but no lifts?

London Paddington has accessible platforms but also has a footbridge with only a lift down to platform 1. Does that count? For non-London termini, Guildford might be a contender with both a footbridge and a subway but no lifts?

North Downs Line engineering works timetable (31/03/2024 & 06-07/04/2024)

Worth noting that at each end, the connection will already be waiting. In your example, the train arrives from Redhill at 11:15 too it's not like people will be waiting in the cold on the platform. At North Camp end the bus will almost certainly waiting outside the front of the station as well...

Farewell B.R 'circus horn' and Emma Hignett

East Croydon was the only station I knew of that had both Infotec screens and the fast trumpet jingle. Never heard that anywhere else and the LO stations are definitely Daktronics boards.

Farewell B.R 'circus horn' and Emma Hignett

I would just like to clarify that the screens at East Croydon are Infotec screens with a circus horn sound added to them. They are not Daktronics screens and they replaced the original yellow Connex screens. East Croydon never had the newer Daktronics screens.

    Caledonian Sleeper

Looks like it's a bus from Kingussie. I'd imagine the Fort William portion will run to Inverness as part of that service.

North Downs Full Line Closure 10th Feb to 18th Feb

I couldn't answer this I'm afraid, but seeing as the modified Turbos have not been cleared, I very much doubt the 769s would have been (no incentive, etc etc).

North Downs Full Line Closure 10th Feb to 18th Feb

I believe the specific restriction is in the up direction through Worplesdon station where previously Turbos would have to pass through at 10mph with the suspension airbags deflated. That bridge has already been removed.

In that case it looks like the last all-blue 450 pairing was 2L51 / 5B51 on the 23rd: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:Y03014/2024-01-23 https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:Y04496/2024-01-23/detailed It's probably unlikely that these will be paired up again but anything...

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Off peak, there were 4 fast trains per hour to Guildford before COVID. 2 fast and 1 slow to Portsmouth, and 1 Haslemere stopper. Now we have 1 fast and 1 slow Portsmouth, and the Haslemere stopper.
