Railway Keys Often For Sale On Ebay

The key to worry about is the S&T Grandmaster. You could cause a lot of chaos, death and destruction with one of those and a length of wire.

    5972 Hogwarts Castle in Disneyworld

I know 5972 has worked the Jacobite at least once, though I can't give a specific date. It was covering for a failed loco and I seem to remember Warner Brothers got rather upset about it.

Trivia: Stations with bay platform which can take HSTs

Crosscountry HSTs used to change ends in the West end docks at the Waverley every day. Years ago I was on an Aberdeen to Penzance service which used 16, for example.

Trivia: Stations with bay platform which can take HSTs

Dundee platform 2 and Perth platform 6.

    Perth Station

Step free access is pretty good in my opinion; the two main original Victorian footbridges both have ramped access at either side and a few million was recently spent on a bridge with lifts linking all the platforms. There is a large heated waiting room between platforms 4 and 5. One thing about...

    Perth Station

Both. The CET (tanking) facilities are in the fuel road.

    Perth Station

Fuelling, tanking and washing requirements at Perth are arranged by the Station Co-ordinator in conjunction with Scotrail Control. Every set which stables should be processed - unless prevented by possessions or faults - but the order in which this is done varies night by night. There are three...

    Axle counter lines

Not all the Routes - for example Scotland Route doesn't list or explicitly show axle counter areas.

    Borders Railway - Now Open

I can't wait to get a run up the Borders once the driver training starts. You might be interested to learn that the initial signal sighting work was done using videos made by sending out a lad on a quad bike with a video camera cable tied to the front to drive up and down the old solum!

£170m to be spent on Aberdeen - Inverness

I don't know about Inverurie but the Forres deveg is indeed the start of the new (well, old) alignment and station construction.

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

Interestingly the very first plans for the Tay Bridge had the railway crossing the river at Mugdrum Island, between Newburgh and Errol. See Prof. Charles McKeen's book "The Battle For The North".

Expansions for Scotland's rail network proposed

Never mind your Glasgow Crossrail, Garngad Chord, Cathcart Circle tram-trains etc... I would like to see proper investment in rail outside the Central Belt. Not just a train shaped plant pot here and a new footbridge there but decent money being spent to improve the network. Laurencekirk station...

Help finding directions to Scottish Signal Boxes

All the boxes - in Scotland at least - do have postcodes but these are not always the best way to pin the actual location down. For example the postcode for Kilmarnock takes you to the Morrisons supermarket on the other side of the railway, requiring a half mile drive round town to get to the...

Help finding directions to Scottish Signal Boxes

You need to speak to whoever is in charge of your contract in Network Rail. I could provide you with road directions and/or post codes for all the Scottish signalboxes but that wouldn't be very professional for either of us, would it?

    Tay Rail bridge closed

No. A train was detained at Leuchars when the Bridge shut and after a short delay went through the road to start a service back to Edinburgh. The wind speed management protocol requires that any train on the Bridge is allowed to continue before the structure is closed to rail traffic. It takes a...

    Tay Rail bridge closed

To my certain knowledge the Tay Bridge was closed for two consecutive days during high winds in 2012 and around 12 hours during a bad storm in 2009. There is an agreed protocol for the management of rail traffic during high winds which has been in place for at least 20 years now. The Bridge...

    Signaller Assessment

When I did the tests the woman supervising us spent about 15 minutes, no joke, explaining the lift beeps and playing the practice test to one of the people in are group (not me LOL ) but in the end she said she had to move on and the guy still thought you had to count all the bbeps.

    Network Rail interview.

Funny I never thought about that but there must be a toilet  Does the signalboxes have a kitchen too or is it just pot noodles?

    Listening to Music whilst driving?

Good question. Can signallers listen to music or watch tv because I'd of thought theres less going on in a signalbox than in a train drivers cab most of the time?

    Signaller test

Hi, I did the tests yesterday and I found them all really hard work. The bit with the lift going up and down was impossible!! I hope I passed but I think I blew it but the lady said if anyone failed they could resit in 6 months. There was no interview yesterday just the tests. Thanks Alan.
