LNER proposal to withdraw Stirling and Glasgow Central direct services: what do you think should happen?

Of more critical importance is the preservation of the Chieftain north of Edinburgh, and the failure of LNER to guarantee that this service will operate every day. I know that Visit Scotland has concerns about this and its effect on the tourist industry.

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

WCRC has been far from squeaky clean in the matter of safety - the Wootton Bassett SPAD early in 2015 followed in October of that year, when at Doncaster the TPWS was isolated by the fireman.

GWML / Elizabeth line disruption due to OLE down near Paddington

Does anyone know who the culprits are who decided there should be no toilet facilities on Elizabeth Line stock?

Storm Babet disruption - Friday 20/10

There is a Tesco Express stuck at Shap, whilst the late-running Glasgow train is behind it at Oxenholme.

The independent inquiry into allegations of sexual harassment and bullying within TSSA has now concluded.

Indeed! It is probable that Baroness Kennedy was unaware that he was still on the payroll, possibly because she was unable to question him. Mr Cortes seems to have gone to ground in recent weeks. The BBC says that it has tried relentlessly to contact him for his side of these unfortunate...

The independent inquiry into allegations of sexual harassment and bullying within TSSA has now concluded.

The following is an update today from the TSSA's website: Last year the TSSA commissioned a report by Baroness Kennedy KC to examine allegations of sexual harassment and bullying within the TSSA. That report, having been published, and serious concerns having been raised in it, the TSSA is...

West Coast weather warning to and from Scotland for Friday 30/12/2022

I can confirm from my own contacts that the DfT is exercising a stranglehold over decisions involving expenditure within TOCs - even small items. Unless and until we can eradicate this cadaverous influence the rail industry is going to continue to suffer. Industry insiders have been berating...

West Coast weather warning to and from Scotland for Friday 30/12/2022

Lots of flooding issues on Scottish routes. Main E & G route via Falkirk has been blocked for some time. 1E13 left Inverness late and progressively lost time on route south. It has been stuck at Newbridge for over an hour and is nearly 4 hours late. It is due to be terminated at Waverley...

West Coast weather warning to and from Scotland for Friday 30/12/2022

According to the NRE website, Avanti and TPE ticketholders can use LNER. Trouble is, some LNER services leaving KGX and Edinburgh are known to have left full and standing - a situation exacerbated by cancellations due to crew shortage.

LNER unreliability caused by staff shortages

    Thanks for that clarification.

LNER unreliability caused by staff shortages

1E13 suffered problems north of Perth this morning and was eventually terminated at Edinburgh (46 min late) due to power supply problems.

    Christmas/New Year Services

Very grateful to you for that information. I have just been able to book my LNER tickets for 21 and 28 December ahead of others (the ticket alert email has yet to be received). Thanks again!

    Christmas/New Year Services

For some weeks I have been trying to book, via the LNER website, for services running after 20 December 2022 via the ECML. So far bookings are available up to and including 20 December but no further, apparently because the timetables have not been finalised. This problem is not confined to...

LNER unreliability caused by staff shortages

The dialogue on this thread referring to the LNER service north of Edinburgh to and from Inverness has covered Drivers who are Newcastle-based. What happens to LNER Train Managers working to and from Inverness? Are they also drawn from Newcastle's resources and work an identical diagram to...

LNER unreliability caused by staff shortages

Ridiculous! I take it that in the reverse direction a Newcastle driver works an Edinburgh/Aberdeen service, then travels on the cushions to Inverness preparatory to working the 07.55 departure in the morning?

Trivia: unwritten etiquette as a railway passenger

If someone intends to use their phone for a long period of time, move to the vestibule to do so. Also, refrain from discussing sensitive business matters whilst travelling. Recently I was on the northbound LNER Inverness service when a woman boarded at Darlington. Immediately, she got on her...

LNER unreliability caused by staff shortages

I was due to take the 08.32 LNER service from Aviemore to Stirling tomorrow but two days ago I got a wishy-washy email from LNER advising me to check my LNER account on its website to see if the service was still running. It was shown as cancelled! Then early this morning, I got another email...
