    It's to do with paths and what is available. In the Down going through Platform 4 vice DM can be done if something is in the Up is calling at Darlington as it removes conflicts at the north and south end, you can also run parallel into the bays from Dinsdale and route through Platform 4...

    Why this one-off inter-station time?

    All allowances are mandated in Section 5.5 of the Timetable Planning Rules (available online), single line working allowances are very common nationally. Allowances vary by day of week, most likely Sunday is missing as maintenance staff are elsewhere on heavier weekend works.
