Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

To circumvent this, the first class section at the back (relative to direction of travel) is always declassified on Thameslink services, so head straight there if you happen to be on one longer than an hour. Did St Pancras to Brighton and back on a 700 and this section is more suited for those...

    Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket

Because the €49 Deutschland Ticket is valid for a month, whereas the €46 QDL ticket is only for a day, are there still any benefits to the latter compared to the former?

Eurostar St Pancras - is bedlam normal?

How is the 1104 departure to Amsterdam and the 1301 departure to Brussels? Those are likely to be the ones I'd aim for if I used an Interrail Global pass instead.

    Club Avanti

Just to double-check since I've recently signed up: If I booked a journey through Avanti to Birmingham (I know Preston to Birmingham is long enough for a qualifying journey), would I have to book Preston to Birmingham as a separate booking (i.e. the booking has to be between the two Avanti...

Where are "overnights" still possible on the UK railway (NOT Night Riviera or Caledonia Sleeper).

In case you didn't know, the first class section at the back (relative to direction of travel) is declassified on all Thameslink trains. Thus, a first class ticket won't be necessary for this. Personally, I found the first class section reasonably comfortable, although it's pretty much what...

    TRIVIA: Overnight Non-Sleeper Services

Just found another thread recently started here which has some interesting ideas. The Brighton to Bedford one and back from midnight to 6am is not a bad shout, provided you go for the declassified first class at the back.

Eurostar St Pancras - is bedlam normal?

Ah fairs, so if I got to StP by 3am (whenever the night bus from Victoria arrives) I could probably chill in Starbucks (or anywhere else in StP that's open 24/7) for 2 hours before getting into Eurostar check-in?

Eurostar St Pancras - is bedlam normal?

Anyone have any experience getting the 0616 to Amsterdam? What are the queues like to board this train from StP? Considering booking this, as all cheap fares seem to be for this time and the timing would allow me to return to London on the same day (kinda fancy a daytrip to Rotterdam) on time...

    TRIVIA: Overnight Non-Sleeper Services

Not sure if this has already been discussed before elsewhere, but what are some examples of train services (preferably long-distance) that run through a large chunk of the night (i.e. starting before midnight but reaching its destination around 4-5am or at least late enough that you don't have...

Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

All pre-2015 Desiro units use the exact same type of seats. Thus, the 350/2, 360 and 450 are indeed all the same seats for the 2+3 layout. Likewise, the 2+2 version of those seats (which have more contour, slightly winged headrests, tables and armrests, and probably a bit more padding) are used...

Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

Same here; I found the seats, while not great, were certainly not as bad as most people say they are. The main issue is the fact that they're using seats intended for regional trains in long-distance intercity trains. I suppose they're acceptable with operators such as Transpennine Express, who...

Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

Hi there! Since you're here, could you do a tier list for modern (meaning after the mid-2010s from the Class 700 onwards) train seats?

Can and will train seats become comfortable again?

Interesting how subjective the views are between all theses seats. Personally I found that the refurb Pendolino seats (which I've travelled on a lot between Preston and Edinburgh or London, both around 2h20m), despite being noticeably harder than the original seats, are superior in every other...

    Class 175 future speculation

Makes sense; GWR already have a fleet of 158s so it saves driver training and I'm pretty sure the TfW and GWR 158s were all part of a single fleet once upon a time, back in the days of Wessex Trains and Alphaline, so their destinations (if they're still programmed to have a mix of Wales &...

All Line Rover - why no shortened version?

Closest you can do is an off-peak return via ANY PERMITTED from your starting station to somewhere very far away, for example: Inverness, Aberdeen, Penzance, Weymouth, Portsmouth Harbour, Ramsgate, you name it. Make sure the ticket allows you to break your journey as much as you like and give...

Day 2 was uploaded two weeks ago, but I just realised I forgot to post it here: Day 3 has just been uploaded now; been a bit slow cos I've been busy, but I'll get round to it eventually:
