Agreed there were shunters etc that worked for many years and DMU's but many mainline locos were scrapped by the early seventies. Is there anyone here who knows if the Europeans had the same issues with mainline Diesel that had to be scraped after 10 years from being built in the 50's or early 60's.
Getting a bit confuesd here, not a railway geek at all, more of an engineer with a common intrest in mechanical things.
There were around 2,500 steam trains built from 1948 to 1960 or so in the UK. Now Germany other European railways were using Diesel trains from the late forties or so.

To be honest folks. After taking early retirement from a major oil company in Aberdeen 10 years ago and now still consulting after my state pension age for about 15 days per year to get out from under the good ladies’ feet.
I have found that in a total of three major Oil companies and four...
The Inverness train requires two locos due to the terrain it goes through. That leaves one hot spare loco and one loco being out for maintenance and exams. That would seem to be a sensible number.
Yes, talking to some tradesmen who have been working in other industries over the current period. It is the widget manufacturer who has produced these parts for the last 20 years who is on furlow that is holding up say 200 completed assemblies leaving the factory that was never an issue in the...
Just looking at the set deliveries over the last 5 sets and they are taking nearer 26 days to complete between sets.
It was less before that in January and February 2020.
Using 26 days per set and adding 10 days for the Xmas and New Year break that suggest the last 4 car set arrives...
The Scottish Parliament’s Rural Affairs and Connectivity Committee’s meeting this
morning had a changed agenda to hear from and question the Transport Secretary about
coronavirus issues. Main points of interest:
Caledonian Sleeper is not reducing services at the moment, but may need to do so...
There was a second 73 at Fort William on Tuesday to recover the carriage stuck at Tulloch back to Fort William.
There is also talk of 37688 being at Fort William Yard with a Dellner coupling at the same height as the Sleeper stock but only at one end of the Loco.
Strange!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thankyou TimboM.
I thought you advised that the 73/9s would also need a jumper changed when powering the new stock but that could be done at the local Depot rather than going back to Brush!
Question on the Sleeper ETH.
What ETH voltage was the old stock and was it AC or DC?
What is the ETH voltage of the 6 off 73's after change over to the new stock and is it AC or DC?
The 92's are reported as having an ETH voltage of 1,500 Volts for the new stock is that AC or DC.
Thanks!
How many bikes can be carried on the non refurbished sets outwith the power cars.
Are the refurbished sets still only two bike capacity outwith the power cars.
The HST 4 car has 12.6 HP at the wheel after train heating etc
The HST 5 car has 11.2 HP at the wheel after train heating etc
The HST 6 car has 10.1 HP at the wheel after train heating etc
The HST 8 car has 8.4 HP at the wheel after train heating etc

Roast Veg, those that claim to know on this forum, advise that the Delinier coupling equiped 92 can hinge it's Delinier down to make the old fashioned coupling available for a pull by a "normal loco". No such statement has been made about this facility on the delinier equiped 73 locos, are you...
The Rail Operations Group 37s and the 57/3s have their Delinier couplings at a different height and cannot be used on the new CS stock, they also have the alternators at the wrong voltage.
You could not make this up as people would say that would never happen.
Again being simplistic would Brush not have a shunter to take the locos from the repair depot to the nearest electrified rail line or is that far to far away. I assume that there would be shunter there due to the amount of locos at the yard again maybe too simplistic.
Excuse me for being too simplistic. Why not send a driver qualified to drive a 92 to bring the 92's back i.e. a train fare or bus fare to get the driver there and the guys wages to pay, rather than sending a 66 and driver and then burning diesel to move the 92's. Seems like one to many...
