Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

I don't want anyone to suffer undue inconvenience when using the railway, whether that be the time taken to add a railcard to a booking, or accidentally purchasing a ticket that has been wrongly discounted automatically and having to be inconvenienced to apply for a refund and repurchase. But...

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

Well my point was that the inconvenience of spending a few extra seconds of time for adding the railcard discount manually is significantly less than the inconvenience caused when it applies the discount automatically after the railcard has expired.

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

I can see why some would want the convenience of booking tickets without needing to pick the railcard discount each time, but it really isn't an inconvenience. If I forget to add the railcard, then all that means is I overpay for my journey. However, if my railcard expires but is still...

Gatwick Airport to Reading - Sunday 4th Feb

Thank you both. Excellent information and advice. Yes, I do have a railcard. I've managed to find a split ticket via Clapham and on SWR to Reading, for pretty much the same price as my current ticket. I'll therefore claim the refund and buy this alternative ticket, and at least I am no worse...

Gatwick Airport to Reading - Sunday 4th Feb

Hi All. I am looking for some help and advice on what to do. A few days ago, I bought a Gatwick Airport to Reading single, route via Gomshall. This is for travel on Sunday 4th February. I now see that the GWR website is saying that there is planned engineering work between Reading and North...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I’m in Wallingford so Didcot is my closest. I can access plenty of ticket offices around London. I just wasn’t sure whether that ticket was only available via CS website or whether it could be bought from a ticket office.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I see there are £50 seat tickets on the Caledonian Sleeper website for a date in March that I’d like to travel on. Am I able to buy this from any station ticket office? I ask as I’d like to buy using RTVs.

Most exotic licence plate personally spotted on UK road

Last summer I saw two motorhomes in convoy around the Bath area with Falkland Islands plates. Certainly an unusual sight. I wonder whether they’d overlanded on some epic adventure.

    Oxford to Swindon Season

Wow, that's an amazing shout, thank you. Hopefully I won't get any issues at the Didcot gate line when using this ticket to enter / exit.

    Oxford to Swindon Season

Hello Everyone. Probably a silly question, so apologies in advance! Can anyone advise me whether an Oxford to Swindon season ticket will enable me to enter and exit the station at Didcot? If so, will the fact that it is loaded to a smartcard cause an issue with entering / exiting the barriers...

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

Ah I think I actually rode on 2U82 but the PA at Denmark Hill suggested otherwise. Is it possible to find out which units were on this please? Thanks.

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

Hi Everyone. Could someone tell me what units were on the 2Z66 10:50 Dover to Victoria service today (23rd Oct)? I know 465030 was one of them but trying to find out the other. Thanks in advance.

Trivia: Electrification that's (likely) never been used.

I think the Iver Goods Loop on the GWML is wired but I wonder if anything has used it on the wires.

    PTE-liveried multiple units - unusual services/locations?

I remember seeing a GMPTE Class 150/1 in Devon when I was a kid. It would have been around the time of privatisation. I cannot remember exactly where I saw it though. In 2004, a Centro Class 150/1 was also on hire in Devon, as I caught it a few times on Exmouth - Paignton services.

    Named Multiple Units

I remember that one of the Class 456 units was named 'Sir Cosmo Bonsor' when it was operating with Southern. The first few Class 159 units were also named, as I remember seeing one with the name City of Exeter while at Exeter.

Trivia - stations with too many platforms

Platform 5 at West Drayton was rebuilt recently but I've never seen any service use it to date. No idea if it's to be used more regularly in the future or whether it was just built for extra resilience in the event of disruption.

Trivia: Cardinal directions in station names

Whatever the reason, it creates some funny anomalies. A good one being East Dulwich, which is north of North Dulwich.

Least popular journeys made between two stations served by a direct train? Based on tickets sold?

In my part of the world, I should think tickets sold between Appleford and Culham are rare. The service between the two is poor due to the stopping pattern of the Didcot to Oxford shuttle, and even if someone wanted to travel between them, there are no ticket buying facilities at either station...
