Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Isn’t the document just to deflect from the fact that SWR are dropping their Dec-22 major timetable revamp they consulted on? This after they did the same pre-pandemic with the very high capacity timetable.

    December 2022 Timetable Changes

Yes - apologies. SWR determined who could respond and it did not include passengers. 1653392067 They said: It’s also important to note that SWR said: SWR have badly managed those new patterns of travel and have so far failed to meet demand. I don’t expect SWR to have taken anything on board.

    December 2022 Timetable Changes

Didn’t help that SWR would take input from individuals, only stakeholders (groups) they identified.

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

So not unreasonable for 1F27 to be stood still for a good while awaiting someone to take over that role.

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

Would the signaler get relieved in case they were in anyway at fault? (not saying they were).

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

Journo's playing with stor Point two "in the tunnel" can't be right based on where the trains have ended. Journo's playing with stories they don't understand.

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

It came from the initial log reported shared on twitter. There are now known inaccuracies in this as it refers to 1F30 on its side - which isn't the case based upon photos.

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

If, the GWR train hitting an object was from the initial GWR driver reporting an issue, this is fully understandable. Surely, the driver's first reaction would be more towards hitting an object than another train hitting it based on frequency of these events happening. Hence the importance of...

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

But 7 minutes isn't accurate. Network Rail Wessex confirm on their twitter feed that the incident was 1845. Originally this was quoted as 1846. That's just two and a quarter minutes after [the front] of the GWR train passed through the Tunnel Junction timing point.

Oxford to Gatwick Airport Direct service (Sat 14th Dec)

Are Cross Country loosing their diversionary route via Havant then? AIUI the main reason for the Guildford services was to enable the route retention.

SWR Engineering plans: why are they diverting via Chertsey and not Epsom?

I recall travelling January 2005 or 2006 to London from Fratton and every weekend being diverted via Epsom. One weekend the possession extended to include the lines at Raynes Park. That weekend Portsmouth services stopped at Woking. You had to join Weymouth services and the conditions were...

SWR consultation on late night services

Consultation has gone live today. Perhaps what is interesting is that the plans tweak at the edges based upon the current timetable but mention nothing of the franchise commitments to later journeys. E.g the later Portsmouth service is not mentioned.

SWR Engineering plans: why are they diverting via Chertsey and not Epsom?

I remember in the mid-00s, that if Wimbledon was open, the fast Pompey services would divert via Epsom calling additionally at Wimbledon. Shuttle service from Woking to Haslemere connecting with fast from Waterloo. If Wimbledon wasn't open, services would terminate at Woking/Surbiton as...

SWR consultation on late night services

The link now redirects to https://www.southwesternrailway.com/plan-my-journey/timetables/december-2020-timetable-consultation so appears very much in respect of 2020 timetable. This is rather interesting as a number of lines were due to be getting later services M-S as part of the December 2018...

Could SWR utilise Vivarail units on their mainline routes?

Moderator note: Split from Class 484 to replace class 483 on the island line Is it too optimistic to hope that SWR might now acquire an additional couple of these to service the Lymington Branch. These would be ideal units. Not to mention Guildford - Farnham, Aldershot - Ascot and Virginia...

    EMT & SWT Livery

As far as SWT goes, initially, both the Mark 1 units and class 455 units gained an Stagecoach orange stripe along with some of the Class 442 units. The plan was for the white stagecoach livery to apply throughout originally hence the Class 458 units were delivered in white. By the time that the...

Would it be possible to have faster services on the London Waterloo - Portsmouth route?

In any peak hour, with 3 Southern Services from Chichester, 2 SWR from Eastleigh, 2 SWR from Southampton, 1 GWR from Southampton and 4 SWR from Petersfield all headed to Fratton, plus 2 SWR and 2 Southern (and possibly a GWR for good measure) across the top of the triangle, you must be starting...

The proposal was: 1710 Fast to Portsmouth Harbour (skip Woking) 1719 Stopper to Portsmouth & Southsea 1729 Stopper to Fratton (skip Woking, overtaken at Haslemere) 1740 Fast to Portsmouth Harbour (skip Woking) 1749 Stopper to Portsmouth & Southsea 1759 Stopper to Petersfield (skip Woking...
