"Not valid on trains timed to depart" - 9I - least or most restrictive?

Thanks, that clarifies things somewhat. To refer to another example, LS specifically bars travel from LTN to STP on the 09:28 EMR However, CP only bars travel after 09:19 Does this mean that carnet off peaks are valid on the EMR where normal off peak tickets are not, even though national...

"Not valid on trains timed to depart" - 9I - least or most restrictive?

Yes, it's another one of these threads... I know these types questions have been asked time and again, but I can't seem to find a specific answer. (Outbound portion of return here in question, final destination Nuneaton) 9I states no travel on trains departing STP before 10:26. It also states...

    Canary wharf interchange directions/map?

Ok I will admit, the last time I went to Canary Wharf I was drunk as a skunk and spent half an hour+ looking for the entrance to the Elizabeth Line station. Today though I was sober. I got off the Jubilee line and the only Elizabeth line sign I saw was a whiteboard with an arrow saying 350m...

    WMT Class 730 impressions

Got to see one in the flesh today and although thankfully I didn't get on it, I was already disappointed. When I heard they were going to be 2+2 I was happy, now I see the seats I am not :( And looking at the LNR factsheet fills me with more disappointment... 3 car - 199 seats = 66 per car...

    Shrinkflation - examples?

Unfortunately Kronenbourg hasn't only changed it's ABV, it's now a different recipe making it something of a blonde beer... To make it worse, the supermarkets are starting to run out of the proper stuff now :(

    Landslip near Dewsbury (08/11/23)

Could anyone travelling eastbound from Manchester Victoria today let me know what the TPE loadings are like? Currently running alternative routes through my head for this evening...

Redhill non stop via platform 3?

Convention "shmention?" . If the driver taking the train out of platform 1 is delayed so much by disruption that there's not enough stabling space, then the other end of the train is only 2 cars away... 1692554098 Addendum: disruption at Redhill is normally caused by unfortunate platform...

    "The next stop will be..."

Thinking back, "station stop" may actually have been the wording used, but my OCD was more focused on the use of "is" over "will be".

Redhill non stop via platform 3?

And, for that matter, why do 2 car GWR services stop all the way at the end of platform 1? Seems like an unnecessarily obtuse way of preventing passengers from taking the next Gatwick service, from whichever platform that may be...

Redhill non stop via platform 3?

Why would/do services to tonbridge that don't stop at Redhill go via platform 3 rather than staying on the fast line? Is it a strange lack of route knowledge, an interlocking issue, laziness from the signallers, or otherwise?

    "The next stop will be..."

I had a guard on the southeastern diversion pre-empt the "next station is..." announcement by using good grammar. Very pleasant surprise. When did the automated announcements forget grammar, or did they never learn?

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

Perhaps I was inaccurate - what I meant was - Intercity journeys without enough seats for all passengers is not something a modern society should be proud of. Why? Just make sure they have a tight grip on a pole for the entire journey and everything will be fine! Are you advocating pricing...

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

Why is it ok for airlines to say that but not train companies? You know what happens when planes are regularly full? More capacity gets added. But as I said earlier, actual investment in the railways is a whole other argument.

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

Well that was my whole point. Intercity journeys without reserved seats is not something a modern society should be proud of. Bring able to get the next train because there aren't any seats and still having to pay the same as someone who was lucky to get a seat on their preferred service is not...

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

To prevent people using the railways for things other than needing to go somewhere. Im not proposing getting rid of inspectors. I am sure there can be a way to designate specific trains as standing allowed as and when required. The point is not to stop people travelling, it is to stop them...

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

Why? It's not like the exorbitant fare money is disappearing from thin air, it's just being spent on other things that attract different taxes. Trains should be a public service. Then ticket machines will still be available - enter your start and end points and choose an itinerary from the...

My idea to abolish market based pricing and implement pricing based on distance and train category

I think the underlying premise is good but I would go about it a different way: 10p per mile for the distance from the start station to the end station, as the crow flies (it isn't the commuters fault the line isn't more direct). 5p extra for first class, 5p extra for journeys starting, ending...

    Smoking on the train.

Had a 15 minute delay on Thameslink the other week when some idiot managed to set off the fire alarm with his vape cloud at 100mph on the ECML fast, moaned to his mate on the phone about being delayed, and then hid the device just before the driver had finished walking the 12 carriages back to...
