June 2024 reopening of the line between Clitheroe and Hellifield for passenger trains

It's just a detail, but yes Blackpool do sign 156s, otherwise a whole load of Ormskirks, B Souths, Colnes and Morecambes would be cancelled!

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

Yes, Ince temporary closure is part of the programme - should have happened last summer as it was originally planned to close the day after Hindley reopened, however Hindley over-ran then Buckinghams went into adminstration so it was all postponed.

    Out of time announcements.

On the legacy fleet (15x types) it'll probably be the TrainFX units that don't tend to listen to the commands coming down, indicates that the unit needs a new SIM card, which is a depot visit.

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

So the first masts went up over the weekend - theres a few up just east of Ince by the Bakkavor factory, and I noticed that there's a pile of cantilevers in the compound at Crow Nest.

    Northern Short Forming Again

There is also the element of how much can be afforded to have lying about spare, bearing in mind that Northern is arms length govmnt owned so the treasury has a hand in the background. As an example a 156 unit costs around £4k a WEEK in leasing charges, then there's fuel, parts, maintenance etc...

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

oh well, it was nice while it lasted - 458 came out on 2W27 from Victoria and managed as far as Salford Crescent.

    Northern unit reallocation

They were all running out of hours before their next major exam, who's going to spend £xxxs on something that's only going to be used for a few months (don't look at the various SWR machinations!!!)

    Northern unit reallocation

323220 failed this morning knocking today's allocations out a bit. To answer the original question - The reshuffle of the 331s was to spread the electric units out in terms of mitigating against a shortage of units on the back of the 319s going, and the expected 323s not having come north yet -...

Manchester Victoria to Wigan North Western diagram

Both diagrams are booked as 3 car 331s, but Allerton are usually short at the moment of electric units. More 323s are due for the June timetable change according to our esteemed leader.....

Manchester Victoria to Wigan North Western diagram

It is now quite a busy service, but usually just in one direction - in the morning going to Victoria and the evening back to Wigan. (Albeit I do see a lot of the £3 advance tickets being used). It's also booked to be a 331, but there's a shortage of units coming off of Allerton at the moment.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Principal difference is being aware that in the event of fire you might not want to exit the train from a driving vehicle. In reality it's being aware of changeover points and waiting to see if power changeover works.

    GW 769s to Scotrail?

I had to check that it wasn't April 1st all of a sudden ;) Curious.... Barrhead, Kilmarnock in the offing? And I hope they're ready for the sudden drop in reliability compared to 156s!
