Possible Disused Track Near Leeds Station

Hi everyone, When approaching Leeds station from Doncaster there looks to be the remains of an old railway system where I'm guessing there used to be a factory of some sort. This can be seen on the left hand side as you approach the station and from memory it's close to some fancy looking...

    Lickey Line Trials

Would the Channel Tunnel le shuttle locomotives not eclipse the class 92s? Just wondering that's all.

    Lickey Line Trials

I think Kestrel would have given both of them a run for their money!

    Gateshead (GD) Locomotives

I realise that the freight locomotives would be covered in dirt for obvious reasons, it was the class 47s that I was thinking of.

    Lickey Line Trials

Hi everyone, Clearly the above never happened (at least to my knowledge) but please try and bear with me! If we could pick any locomotive (separate categories for steam, diesel and electric) to take part in Rainhill style trials which locomotives would come out on top? If you like we can go...

    Guards Vans

Really interesting stuff. I would have loved to have been on a brake van special on the Cromford and High Peak Railway. At least one of these specials ran in the last couple of years of the C & HPR's existence.

    Gateshead (GD) Locomotives

Hi everyone, I'm curious to know why from memory (and photographs in books / YouTube) GD based locomotives always seemed to be filthy. Thanks for reading this.

    BRSA Clubs

I'm amazed that it lasted as long as 1970, especially given that Shirebrook MPD was just up the line.

    BRSA Clubs

Such an interesting thread. Sadly there are comparisons here with the loss of Miners Welfare Clubs.

    Guards Vans

Brilliant stuff! Enjoying the warm sunshine (and getting out of a stuffy and smelly cabin) would have certainly seen me on the veranda watching the world go by!

    Guards Vans

Hi everyone, I'm interested to know whether guards travelling in guards vans ever stood on the verandah whilst their train was in motion. Thanks for reading this.

Trains That Ran From Seaside To Seaside

This journey is certainly not excluded if only for its astonishing length! Thanks for the contribution.

    Possible HS2 Campaigning Group

In all fairness the signs are that Boris Johnson will win an outright majority at the next election.

Trains That Ran From Seaside To Seaside

Peter Waltons excellent book on the Stainmore route has a picture of 43072 hauling the 7.32am South Shields to Blackpool service on the 3rd August 1957. I'm not able to properly see how many carriages the loco is hauling. However, another photograph taken on the 17th August of the same year...

Trains That Ran From Seaside To Seaside

I knew that Scarborough had been a busy old place but I didn't realise that it had once had a direct service to Paignton! For the purposes of this thread I don't consider Newcastle or Liverpool to be the seaside.

    Possible HS2 Campaigning Group

I think that HS2 will be built regardless of what the average man / woman in the street thinks of it. In my experience most British people have little or no interest in railways unless they use the network on a regular basis. And in all fairness huge numbers of people don't use it from one year...

Trains That Ran From Seaside To Seaside

Hi everyone, Hopefully the title is self explanatory. I'm guessing that there can't have been many over the years but in 1962 there was a passenger service that ran from Cleethorpes to Exmouth. Can anyone think of any more? Thanks for reading this.
