    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Is the future capacity decrease because the 769s are going to be incredibly cramped with 3Plus2 seating whereas the 2023 trains are back to 2plus2?Just a thought.

    Work at Birchgrove - Cardiff

I have just had a look down at Birchgrove station (on the Coryton line) from the road bridge and it appears that the disused platform and trackbed is being cleared. Does anybody know why this is? Is it in connection with possible redoubling work for the Metro?

    Transport for Wales 769's

Does anybody know yet whether the 769s for the Rhymney valley will be 3+2 seating or 2+2?

    Carmarthen to Aberystwyth Reopening?

What is the current status of the proposal to reopen Carmarthen - Aberystwyth? Is it still a possibility, or has it been ruled out yet?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere, or I have got the wrong thread, but the ownership of the Core Valleys Lines WAS due to pass from Network Rail to TfW on 21 Sept, I believe. Is this still the case? Did it happen?

KA/TfW franchise: station & infrastructure improvements

I see the residents of Magor are banging on about a new 'walkway' station (i.e. a station without a car park - interesting). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-48662904 Is this not a bit too close to Severn Tunnel Junction to be sensible?

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

150284 is now back in service in blue livery. That should ease the stock shortages in the valley a bit! Only 34? 150 units to go now.

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

I hope they are not going to increase the seating capacity from 212 to 292 by going to 3 + 2 seating. That would be a disaster. People would just take up 2 seats each, effectively making it 2 + 1 seating.

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

It's funny how quiet Ken Skates has been since bandying phrases like "world-class" and "transformational" about. It looks like Carwyn is taking the rap for him, because he's about to depart anyway.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Does anybody know anything about this? I overheard some ATW, sorry TfW, staff yesterday discussing the fact that Cathays station needs to be relocated. Apparently the platforms are too narrow (agreed) and cannot be expanded as the land immediately adjacent has been sold to the university who are...

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

I have recently (3 weeks ago) travelled in Cardiff on 150264, so it is back in traffic, However I couldn't see any significant changes, mainly because it was absolutely rammed on a boiling hot summers day.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I look forward to seeing all the frequency increases through Queen St, especially as both 'sets' of services have to basically cross-over each other, all the Caerphilly line trains going down to Central, and the Ponty line trams going down to the Bay. There's going to be two busy sets of points...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Apologies if I've missed this, but do we know yet if the trams are going to be street-level, or platform-height boarding? Surely the latter if they're going to share stations with new trains?

Keolis/Amey to take over Wales and Borders

Widening the subways and moving the main building are both going to massive, and interesting, engineering operations. Gareth950, please keep us informed.

Keolis/Amey to take over Wales and Borders

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-44229813 I'm loving (not) all the self-congratulation by all those involved in this process. Wasn't Mark Barry the bloke who has come up with all the Metro plans anyway? Sion Barry is another one congratulating WAG on being so secretive.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The recent CASR scheme meant that it was possible for two southbound trains (one from Caerphilly in platform 2, one from Pontypridd in platform 3) to be in Cardiff Queen Street at the same time. My train from Caerphilly was this morning held outside QS waiting for a platform (P3 was free). A...

    Hear Hear. Simple really.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Words fail me. Why on earth does this plan for Cardiff Central include a new multi-storey car park? Is that not going to encourage yet more traffic onto the roads, probably in rush-hour? Does the WAG not have any confidence in it's plan for the new tram (or train) system in getting people to...

Wales and Borders Franchise - what would you do?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, and I realise I'm a bit late, but can anyone explain why the new Bow Street station, a 6-car platform on a single line, is going to cost £6million? What is the breakdown of figures?
