Didn't pull out, just weren't selected by dft for the final 2

SouthEastern franchise direct award through to 1 April 2020 (& franchise competition terminated)

The last 2 bidders are Stagecoach and a consortium of govia and keolis. So don't think I either would be classed as an extension as I don't think the current govia franchise is a jv.

SouthEastern franchise direct award through to 1 April 2020 (& franchise competition terminated)

Formal award in theory is March but we the winner may find out verbally either this week or next. But with the shambles going on in government and by extension the DfT who knows!

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

So what do you think will happen to capacity at Preston Station over the next 10 years? HS2 wil take pressure off a lot of journeys and it's not as if there's room to expand the station much. And with HS2 NPR rail makes more senelse and that will take even more pressure off from all the...

You do realise the government doesn't buy the trains??

Stations that can be built due to HS2 released capacity

As a long shot I'm hoping Standish on WCML could re-open as I live about 200m from it. Doesn't make sense at the moment as a high speed route that already has Wigan nearby, but if HS2 takes the high speed service I'm hoping the WCML could be more of a stopper service.

    Electric motors on DMU's

You will also have an auxiliary alternator driven off the diesel engine to generate electrical power for lights, hvac etc.

    I'm an Alstom Engineer AMA

They went in to service around 2000 with a design life of 35 years. On one side they were designed for 140mph running and have only ever done 125moh in service so have had an "easy life" in that respect, the components will not have been as thermally stressed as they were designed for. But...

Thanks, hadn't seen this but to be honest the guy posting on there knows as much as I do about it!

    Alstom ONIX traction system

334's suffer purely due to the poor maintenance and lack of investment by ScotRail. Treated properly they could be so much better.

Yes from what I understand it was a drive to reduce costs by 30% across the board.

Alstom enter talks with Siemens over rail merger

Reuters website reporting Alstom and Bombardier shares up after the announcement. Seem to suddenly think Alstom and Bombardier could merge and would have less competition concerns than with Siemens.

Alstom enter talks with Siemens over rail merger

Our last big contract was Pendolino, but we've also sold trams in to Dublin and Nottingham. Hope is to get hydrogen trains by the end of the year and for 2021 Pendolino refresh which would take us to 2023. Then hopefully some new build on either SouthEastern or HS2. 4 year firm(ish) pipeline is...

You guys know more than me about 175! I have heard many people speak in hushed tones about the stretch 30 initiative, it certainly didn't stick round for long. Though the Northern and Jubilee line trains seem to have better reliability.

Siemens wins contract to build 94 trains for the Piccadilly line

I suspect it was rushed, probably why Siemens are being cautious and not rushing to do the first trains in the UK before they're ready. NA needs over 1000 work instructions to describe every little bolt assembly to try and ensure the fitters follow the correct way of doing things.

Siemens wins contract to build 94 trains for the Piccadilly line

Hitachi in Japan don't seem to have twigged that the trains need to be maintained in Europe, all the bearings and greases are Japanese and as they are design authority it's very difficult to get them to sign off on using European equivalents. I've been sat opposite Hitachi engineers when they've...

Siemens wins contract to build 94 trains for the Piccadilly line

I've heard the Japanese dislike Hitachi Europe so much that when Engineers have been sent over they refuse to help on any NA built trains. They will only work on the ones they built in Japan.

The cl22x are bombardier vehicles but with an Alstom traction package so we only deal with the traction cases, alternators and motors. We did quote for the external re-paint prototype but nothing on the internals. I would wager it will depend on whether they feature in the plans of future...
