Have you ever been mistaken for rail staff, or helped those less familiar with the network?

Not really ‘not staff’ as I am but as I worked for a non-operational department I am taking the liberty! In the early 90s working for the Civil Engineers Dept in the days where you undertook site visits by train if you could, I was stood at Darlington station in Orange waterproof coat, drenched...

Future LNER London to Huddersfield services

fair point, I realised after I posted what time it sets off! Although looking at National Rail Enquires there’s a 05-54 stopper that gets into Leeds 15 mins behind the LNER so add a few mins onto that and now you’ve only got 6 or 7 mins turnaround at Leeds to couple up, crew to change ends, load...

Future LNER London to Huddersfield services

Whilst the 24 mins is clearly not ideal there are a number of other things that need to be taken into consideration. Firstly the Huddersfield to Leeds Route is extremely congested and the service will need to be pathed around the existing broadly clockface timetable. (4 fasts per hour on the 15...

Introduction of York to Scarborough Northern service

There has been a pacer running on the York to Scarborough line this week so I am assuming the route learning mentioned here has commenced. now to start the rumours that they are the intended traction!!!

TransPennine Express Nova 1 (Class 802) Diagrams

I’m wondering if there’s a bit of an issue here with all/most of the fleets that’s not quite come out yet due to partial introduction. Both here and the class 68/mk5 discussions are now inferring a 185 diagram still remaining after full fleet introduction. All of TPEs new trains were ordered...

    Christmas special

I am predicting the following issues on route along the journey: On leaving North Pole all the presents are rammed onto 5 sleighs because the second 5 sleighs didn't turn up - but be grateful you got half a service rather than none. Delays then occur on the South Western section following...

TPE Nova 3 (Class 68 + Mk5s) updates and withdrawal from service

There’s a mk5 set in Platform 7 at York at moment and looks like it was cancelled from York. Another trip on the Coastliner bus for some!

TPE Nova 1 Class 802/2 Progress

TPE are still announcing a diagram cancelled today due to Vandalism. 07-09 from Newcastle and onwards through the day - does anyone know what happened and how many units are affected? Considering how many 802s are supposedly accepted it sounds strange to still be cancelling trains on Thursday...

TPE services allocated for Double units

I’m on that service and was wondering the same, it does seem to have 2 hosts which infers it is planned but could still be just a nice one off. They are however splitting it at Victoria as presumably until timetable change it may not fit in allocated platform at the Airport.

TPE services allocated for Double units

That’s good news- I had visions of 6 car sets running around with 3 locked out for half of the journey. Just need to make sure you get in the half with the host on any longer runs - unless the guards are going to start serving teas in first class! (Joke - before any come on and lynch me!)

TPE services allocated for Double units

Just out of interest, can TPE actually staff all of these services if they went over to double sets? North Services cancelled all over the place due to staff shortages- I know that’s because they are training for new stock but presumably they need 2x hosts and 2x guards/train manager for every...

TPE Nova 1 Class 802/2 Progress

I’m not sure there are any SP diffs on the Trans Pennine main line (certainly not core North Route), but also I think 80x are RA 5 (I believe the same as a 185) which means they couldn’t run to SP diffs anyway as I believe that is limited to RA2. There are SP diffs on the Hull line from...

    Northern Class 142 sightings

Currently sat on one of the damm things at the moment as Northern seem to have started sometimes putting them on the 17-42 York to Leeds via Harrogate instead of the normal 155. 142018 for anyone interested.

TPE Mark 5A coaching stock progress

I watched the service leave last night at the same time on the way to my train, platform 3 was packed as in your photo and it was fun watching how many people scattered when the driver opened her up just as the the loco passed the big crowd!

TPE Class 397 ('Nova 2') construction and updates

Does anyone know why so many of the test runs are doubled up - considering no plans to do so? Do you get 2 for 1 on your fault free running?

Shortest Gap With Mainline Departures to the Same Place

York has 11-58 and 12-02 to Kings Cross - stopper tucking in immediately behind non stop. I was recently on one that was almost in parallel as the train from Newcastle was 3 late and stopper went up Leeds lines to Colton.

TPE Mark 5A coaching stock progress

To be fair to TPE though it’s now the right thing to do - especially considering the Caledonian Sleeper situation, can you image a set throwing a wobbler in rush hour on the core Trans Pennine mainline, they are clearly not fully confident as they are now starting to accept sets quicker. Also...

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

Because they are made by a company who once built some bullet trains in a different factory, in a different country with different components and different staff! A bit like marketing a Honda Jazz as being powered by Formula One World Championship winning engine technology.

    Northern Class 331: Construction/Introduction Updates

331105 is currently sat in Platform 1 in York. I bet that took some ‘crud’ off the ole as you don’t see much electric traction in there. Probably the class 86 ‘ice breakers’ were the last thing.

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

With reference to the post above about ORR authorisation- is this still just to Leeds or now extended to York and beyond? I’m curious as no specific limitations and it does reference recording Harmonic interference which could be construed as the areas that had interference problems?
