    Guard question

Last week I got a 8.55am train intending to get ticket on train as there was no staff at ticket office and the machines won’t accept cash payment. I only had cash on me. I am used to paying £9.30 for a return but as this was before 9am it was £11.00 this is with a railcard. I only had £10 note...

    Northern tickets

Yea exactly it doesn’t seem fair that people can buy tickets on train but other times they get a penalty fare for it. Either let people buy tickets on trains or don’t not most of time let them but odd time give penalty fare. It would make sense to use barriers or have guards checking tickets...

    Northern tickets

That is exactly what I have found they will all be fine with me showing my railcard and paying for ticket on train so I’m a bit concerned if I ever do meet one of these revenue officers would they let me pay for ticket as I normally do or would they automatically give me penalty fare?

    Northern tickets

I regularly use northern trains from Bridlington to hull and have noticed a few times when I’ve not managed to get a ticket before getting train the conductor says I should get ticket before getting train yet they never used to say anything. I’m not saying they are wrong to it obviously makes...

Peak vs Off-Peak is this enforced for the sake of a few minutes?

Are conductors bothered if people have wrong ticket off peak in peak times? I regularly get trains around 9am so the price can be over £1 more (I have disabled rail card) for case of few mins. Train used to be 9.04 meaning I’d get the off peak cheaper rate. Now it is 8.55 if I buy ticket before...

Is this true or was conductor trying it on?

Yea it was from a station where you can get tickets before but no one ever mentioned I should get ticket before when I’ve brought ticket on train before. Also I think I’ve traveled on train before with a off peak ticket in peak time not deliberately as I’m not even sure off peak times in day but...

Is this true or was conductor trying it on?

i have been using northern trains every week for last few years. I have a disabled rail card for discount. I have around a year back learnt I can still buy a ticket at the lower rate using my rail card on the train. So I have started doing this, but yesterday the conductor was going to charge me...

Do conductors care if people pay or not?

Just out of interest. What would happen if when someone got off train there were people checking tickets at the gate and someone hadn’t got one due to no one coming round on train to sell them? This hasn’t happened to me but there has been the odd time I get off train to have people checking...

Do conductors care if people pay or not?

This is no way saying anyone should try to dodge fares. Everyone should pay to travel. I often get train I have a disabled railcard to get I think 30% off. Sometimes there is an on board announcement saying only full priced tickets will be sold on board so I assumed I had to buy ticket before...

Can you get refunds on unused train tickets

I think it depends on person checking tickets once when ticket office was closed I did pay and get money on train, but sometimes they have announcement saying they will only sell full priced tickets on train. The queue can be up to 10 min.

Can you get refunds on unused train tickets

i regularly get train from Bridlington to Hull and back I have a disabled railcard for I think 30% off the fare. I have to get the ticket before getting the train to get the money off. This means on some occasions I have got the tickets but missed the train due to there being a long queue for...
