    Any Ex firefighters on here?

Unless you are at a very busy station i'd say the shifts are a lot worse on the railway. You will be more tired from them. Yet firefighters are leaving or trying to leave in their droves to join the railway. It probably comes down to whether you are unhappy there and whether the extra money to...

    Trainee T&W Metro Driver Jobs

They use those screens for trainee drivers but theyre used for other reasons too. Training takes around 6 months so it could be trainees from last year coming to the end of their training. Also If a driver is receiving extra training or if they are getting a routine assesment of their skills or...

Apology issued after woman trapped in doors of London Overground train and dragged along platform

My point is people do it because they feel they should not have to wait any time at all. They see a train and about to depart and believe that train and all its passengers should damn well wait for them no matter what. And also i never said safety should not be prioritised. I'm simply giving...

Apology issued after woman trapped in doors of London Overground train and dragged along platform

Yes minutes. They do it day in day out on my trains which run at a 3 to 12 minute interval depending on where you are and time of day. It's nothing to do with how long they might have to wait. Some people believe they simply shouldn't wait at all and will make the train stand so they or their...

Apology issued after woman trapped in doors of London Overground train and dragged along platform

Everyday many passengers through themselves or their body parts into closing doors to prevent the train leaving rather than waiting a few minutes for the next train. Its a really horrible side of driving doo as the driver is ultimately responsible for people when they are doing idiotic things...

    Medical questions

My driver medical took about 2 hours. Injury wise I would just be honest and let them know about it when they ask but let them know you are not affected at work with it or day to day. I'd be tempted to find out if you still need the checks and/or get a letter from the hospital to say you are fit...

    Dogs on the Metrolink

You can take them on tyne and wear metro and they don't have staff in the carriage or on the platform either. Dogs are far better behaved than a lot of the humans on public transport

Notice period prior to joining the railway

I don't think this is a conversation you would really need to have as you would already have told your new employer how much notice period you need to give in your application form or interview. If they popped up and offered you a course with less than 1 months notice then just accept it and...

Northern Trainee Drivers - Newcastle & Darlington (25/03/21)

I think this is what driver 8 is asking, whether they would be given time from when the final offer is made to then give their employer 3 months notice. As handing it in with just a provisional offer is a massive risk. That's how I've picked it up anyway. Maybe I've interpreted it wrong.

Northern Trainee Drivers - Newcastle & Darlington (25/03/21)

I think there is some confusion here over time scale from now to being offered a position versus notice period for an employer. People can't hand in their notice until they have a contract in their hand and medical and references have come back fine, so their 3 month count down could not start...

    GCSEs

Yes functional skills level 2 is equivalent to gcse a-c. And they are accepted by rail companies too. You can still get proof if your exams you did at school bit last time I checked they were on hold because of covid. It wasn't from the school though, I think it was the examining board you need...

    Previous experience before applying

In my limited experience the people I trained with and other colleagues I've met often have a military or emergency service background. Others who don't have that background seemed to have trades or jobs that are important to do correctly for safety reasons or they were in jobs that had a lot of...
