    Advice on trip to Australia

If you visit Cairns there is an interesting day trip to Kuranda where the train snakes up the mountain so sharply you can watch the front of the train pass you from the back of the train or vice versa.

    Heathrow Southern Link

To be honest, all the above suggestions would not interest me. Unless there is a direct train to Heathrow and OOC from Basingstoke, I'll continue to drive to Gatwick for flights and existing services to Birmingham from Basingstoke will be easier and quicker than going to Clapham then OOC to change.

A tube map of the future?

Nice! Unfortunately, you spelt Guildford wrong in two places.

HS2 Construction Updates - Birmingham Area

On that picture, the complexity of the switches is hidden by the green lines. The original is better https://assets.dft.gov.uk/publications/hs2-maps-20120110/hs2arp00drrw05305issue2.pdf

No Eurostar to Amsterdam for almost a year

That is what used to happen before when there was no UK immigration facility in Amsterdam. That is what i would expect especially now that Thalys and Eurostar are merging.

    Heathrow Southern Link

Personally, I would welcome anything that reduced road traffic on the M25 around Heathrow. To have any great effect, I think there would need to be a service to Woking, but that would most likely need changes to level crossings and that will cost more with either tunnels or bridges being...

HS2 Colne Valley Viaduct construction updates

It is an awsome construction. I was diverted (by google maps) off the M25 on Sunday evening and drove under the viaduct a little further along so saw it IRL for the first time. :)

More Delay for HS2, and how should we proceed?

There was another suggestion of building a line via an underground station at Waterloo to Ebbsfleet. I can't remember which organisation suggested it as an alternative terminus and a way to reach HS1. If I remmber rightly is was very expensive.

    HS2 Old Oak Common

While true, it wouldn't matter if something else was built instead.

    Heathrow Southern Link

I would never catch that bus to Heathrow. I caught it once (or twice if you count the return), proving to me that it was pretty awful. Even catching the bus all the way from Basingstoke is almost better. Bus transport, like all the road options, suffers from the M25 being on two sides of the...

    Heathrow Southern Link

I think if there is a through service to Paddington from Woking/Guildford/Basingstoke there will not be capacity on the GWML for an extra 4tph so would have to replace or extend the HX services.

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

I wonder if that would be possible when ETCS L2 is installed and fully operational between Paddington and Airport Junction.

    HS2 Thread Compilation

The link to the East-West Rail Bridge crossing thread seems to have broken. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/hs2-east-west-rail-bridge.243936/ Maybe it got merged with an East-West rail thread?

Eurostar not stopping at Rotterdam or Amsterdam

Same for me. I got to Rotterdam and there were trains running to Den Haag where a friend kindly put up with me sitting and drinking tea for 4 hours. When her husband got home from work he drove us to Amsterdam Schipol. Got home yesterday on a perfect trip on Eurostar.

    HS2 TBM Progress

There was a statement on HS2 in the commons yesterday by Huw Merriman, Minister of State (Department for Transport). https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2023-06-19/hcws858 It mentions the tunnelling progress in amongst lost of other things...

    Reading Green Park Station

Last time I was there it was possible to get to the bridge by heading away from the station and taking a right turn then going onto Kirtons Farm Road and walking back along there to the Bridge.

Thank you for the photos. I was planning to go and take a look myself when it opened but personal commitments have prevented me.
