    I am truly scared.....

Pretty standard from TIL this. I’m pretty sure they don’t even read the first letter they get sent by the ‘offender’ and just wait another one to follow after they have sent the standard template back to the first letter.

Update: received and will be accepting a settlement offer of £118.75 - chuffed. Must say I find TILs procedures / tactics somewhat suspect taking into account my case and various others I have read about on here, but oh well. Big thank you to everyone who has advised, particularly ForTheLoveOf.

Looking through some old cases on here I have come across https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/transport-investigations-ltd-first-letter-crosscountry.166165/ This is a very similar case to that of mine (if anything the poster on that would surely be in a worse position having not bought a...

Thanks for the response. Regrettably, no I don’t still have the paper ticket - nor do I have a receipt - don’t think you usually get receipts when paying cash unless you ask. So would you bother mentioning in this letter now? Or would you just stick to what has been said before and then if...

I’ve just thought - Wolverhampton wasn’t my initial station used that day. I went from Telford to Wolverhampton first (with a paper return ticket that I had paid cash for the previous day) this is because of the fact that Cheltenham was expected to be cancelled on the day that we were going so...

Do you have any suggestions on wording / how to write my response back?

    Ticket activation

Right well that’s fair enough, but I still don’t see why that would lead to prosecution under RoRa in this instance as the ticket was purchased at the correct time at the correct place etc but wasn’t activated at the time eventual activation. Whilst the ticket was invalid due to not being...

Sorry I don’t quite follow here. So you’re saying that they can essentially check via technology where one was when they purchased a ticket on the Trainline app?

Right - thanks for the response, very helpful. I’m not really sure how to phrase any response given that I’m ultimately going to be telling them that they are wrong to be referencing RoRA.. would it literally be a case of stating that ‘whilst the ticket was invalid due to not being activated...

So I have had the following reply which seems to suggest that they intend to prosecute under Regulation of Railways Act 1889. I’m a bit confused by this as, as per the quote here, I did pay the correct fare for the ticket? Any further advice?

Hi all, I have now received my letter from Transport Investigations - attached. They have also sent some other stuff (attached) and highlighted 2 lines - would these be the things I haven’t adhered to? I have drafted up a response as below, just wondering if anyone could have a read and amend...

Thanks for the response - yeah completely understand the issue re the ticket not being activated - and am happy to pay any fine. Just don’t want to end up with a criminal record on the back of it all really - would you say this is realistic?

Thanks for the response. There’s no question of me refusing to settle at all so hopefully that’s what happens. Would it be worth initiating first contact with the company to affirm this?

hello all, So yesterday I travelled to Cheltenham and bought a ticket via my phone. When I got off the train at Cheltenham, staff were checking tickets. The member of staff stated that mine was invalid as I had not activated the ticket, and then took my details and a picture of ID advising that...
