Copenhagen to Hamburg - which side of the train to sit for the best views?

Just done that route and agree the south/east side of the train is best.

Oslo - Trondheim Line Flood Damage

Great, shame I'm in training courses all next week so can't watch! 1714375648 First span is airborne.

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

That was very specific and isn't the general case and can be quite expensive. Although it was fascinating to read about.

    Leeds Station Improvement

I have no idea about units, not my area of expertise. 1713703784 I'll try find out, my impression is it is a big benefit to TRU so widening a viaduct may not be out of the question!

    Leeds Station Improvement

Well and truly into speculative there, I think they hope to just improve the existing.

    Leeds Station Improvement

I believe, although I may have got the wrong end of the stick, that this lengthening includes it's own line to connect into the hallam lines, avoiding having to wait for TPE services to access the station or leave. That in itself could be a game changer for the reliability and arguably shave a...

    Doncaster Sheffield Airport to reopen?

Take it you've never seen the Yorkshire Airlines sketch based on your reply? Have a watch of this to see context to Nym's comment.

    Norway train travel advice needed!

Don't worry about the Ringbu, I recently did this, the bus replacement is very very easy and follows the same valley it took nothing out of the trip and the bus was 10 minutes. So even if it isn't open it shouldn't put you off doing the route. But based on the progress, I suspect it will be...

Network Rail hopes staff will be 'amateur meteorologists'

As an example engineers have to make decisions based on the weather. So to help them make better decisions, upskilling their knowledge at understanding the weather to make more informed decisions. The met office are not engineers so saying we have the met office doesn't really work. I wouldn't...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

The scale of the earthworks is also likely due to the earthworks recieving enough work that they need to be designed properly. Relevant to the other threads on landslides where we are now facing consequences of a lack of understanding of earthworks during the railway building era.

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

Very very good post. And that is one of the key things at play here. Many commenting saying common sense, are very used to slam doors, on the network possibly historically and on heritage railways. There are now families going on the Jacobite who have never ever used one, or even seen one...

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

So what living life is fatal is not the attitude society expects these days. And that is the view of wider society not just the ORR. There is no point pretending it should be. This is not a conspiracy from the ORR. They expect us to keep the people paying us to travel safe, that is in no way...

    Landslips

I have not noticed the landslips up north being in areas where the trees have been cut down so I'm not sure the logic stands up that there is any correlation. Whether vegetation is good or bad depends on the angles, soil type, soil moisture regime and the type of vegetation it is not a black...

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

That is a an oversimplification at best. Who actually research's safety records of train companies before boarding?

Why are XC allowed to continue?

XC have repeatedly stated that as Leeds to Scotland and Leeds to the SW are done of their largest markets they don't want to divert it. I agree there is some logic but I am not sure it would ever happen.

Collision of cargo ship with, and collapse of, Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (26/03)

Thanks yes, updated my post. Interestingly BBC says all the ships lights went off the boat suddenly slowed and veered off course and smoke was seen coming from the boat before it hit the pier. Two harbour pilots on board too.

Collision of cargo ship with, and collapse of, Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (26/03)

It looks like unfortunately highway works were ongoing at the time with several teams working on either the structure or the highway. Unconfirmed reports the boat has sunk too but not seen that anywhere reliable. Those large Truss bridges always look very susceptible but at the end of the day...

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

Really pleasing news, I was worried XC wouldn't get any and was dissapointed only to see 7. As others have said 12 is a significant uplift on the HST capacity. Shame it's going to take another year to get them all. Interesting that Wakefield Westgate and Chesterfield are being dropped over the...
