How many applications and interviews until you cracked it?

Definitely mate, do not give up, my first railway application was in 2009, finally started my railway career in October 2019, there is hope for everyone! Only takes one application at the right time mate.

    TFW SCAAT (Trainee Train Conductor)

10 lines with no errors is much better than 25 lines with 2 errors! If you can do that you're in with a chance! Good luck!

    TFW SCAAT (Trainee Train Conductor)

It's definitely not the goal to complete as much of it as possible, its a quality not quantity based test, better to do 8-10 lines of mistake free work than 28 lines with 1 error on each line for example. If and when you get to another, bear that in mind :)

Overcrowding on North Wales Coast When The Sun Shines This Summer

Fridays do seem to be a bit ridiculous at the moment, people heading off somewhere for the weekend, it must be difficult to prioritise one route over another for 3 cars over 2 cars, no restrictions on any of the trains that I've worked, although train crew can request not to stop orders if the...

How many applications and interviews until you cracked it?

Countless applications over 10 years across all grades, never passed the paper sift until the last one, then made it through all the stages in 1 to get in as a guard :) would advise anyone who is still trying not to give up as one day you'll make the right application at the right time and it'll...

    Timetables at Stations

As poor as that is from GWR, if you had over an hour, you surely could've gone for a coffee anyway? Dawlish station is surrounded by cafes and shops? No need to stay on the platform :) as I said, that doesn't excuse lack of information or communication on the TOC's part though!

Overcrowding on North Wales Coast When The Sun Shines This Summer

There still is, purely a reminder for drivers, not sure of you knew that or not, couldn't tell from what you wrote haha! Also one at flint Station reminding drivers of Shotton :)

Trivia: shortest time between passing two stations

Quite correct, I only added Llanishen and Lisvane because currently there are a good few that do not stop between Caerphilly and Queen Street temporarily, but I don't think that has been introduced on the City Line. Thank you for the mileage information, I wasn't too sure on the exact distances!

Trivia: shortest time between passing two stations

As an aside, there can't be more than a minute between Llanishen and Lisvane & Thornhill on the Rhymney Line in South Wales. Trains have always stopped there as far as I'm aware but, currently many are passing through these stations between Caerphilly and Queen Street. If only the line speeds...

Trivia: What's the longest route mileage on the UK network without encountering overhead catenary...

Don't think any journeys in Wales will beat the above distances, OLE ends north of Newport, so from there to Holyhead is about 200 miles or so I would think. West to East Pwllheli - Wolverhampton must be 90-100 miles, not enough to win it I dont think!

Transport for Wales trainee conductor Cardiff

Congratulations for getting this far mate! Hopefully you won't have too long to wait. Trainees are currently furloughed but they are looking into ways to get people back in the school. The issue would likely be the delay in getting new trainees into the school, as the current trainees have been...

    Pts

As a guard at my TOC the pass mark in the training course is 68/75. This is multiple choice however, different to the rules exam.

    Records & Statistics

It reads like a Blackadder II episode title - Nob and Nobility, Sense and Senility etc :D

Help me regarding an assessment please

If it's for a guard role, google search for scaat tests online. Very few practice tests available but I found 1 or 2. Not a great deal but it helped me.

    Best train tracker sites

In terms of track layout and actually seeing the trains going where, I have to agree I use traksy in work if we're being held at a signal for example. Very handy tool, although there are a lot of places that aren't tracked on there. Tiger gives you a sort of CIS on your phone and you can change...

Applying for more than one job

Speaking personally I don't really think it should matter a bit, when I got my invitation to the concentration tests and interviews for my current job I had 3 applications in all for the same TOC, Customer Service Assistant, Trainee Driver and Trainee Conductor. I was ruled out of the driver job...

    Application help

Spot on with this comment my friend, I'd been dying to get into the industry for a long time and i feel absolutely blessed to be where i am, after working so hard to make it in, and I'm sure you're in the exact same position. Enjoy!

    Application help

That's a very dangerous attitude to have on the railway, complacency. When I started as conductor fairly recently I had a fair idea of some of the parts of my training, however i certainly did not make any sort of point of 'well I know this already'...fortunately from my point of view, as in...

    Application help

Believe me, a keen interest in trains will get you absolutely nowhere, the basics are the basics for a reason so if you leave them out you'll get overlooked instantly. You need to stand out with personal examples of how you have managed your time efficiently, how you have shown resilience, how...

    Commute to your depot?

I'm a guard, but I live 27 miles from my depot, can't do it any quicker than 40 mins even in the dead of night! I nearly always have to drive because of the shift times, it's manageable for me, but obviously i havent got to then drive a train for 8 hours. I always walked to work when I drove...
