    Volunteering - East Lancs Railway

Hi there , great to hear your interested in volunteering at the ELR. Where there particular areas of the railway which you were interested in ( Station, p-way, rolling stock maintenance or the operational side)? Also would you be looking to volunteer time mainly at weekends or weekdays?

Discussion about TOPS allocations in the context of recent locomotive orders

Are you suggesting we shouldn't order any more new rolling stock because we don't have a suitable slot in our Platform 5 books?

    Back in the day...

I went out to photograph this. I think it did several round trips as I have photos of it at Wylam, Prudhoe and Hexham. There was some locos on display in the yard at Hexham ( 56076 Blyth Power and one of the 47401- 47420 batch).

    1987 Glanrhyd Bridge collapse

In addition to the accident report I also found it well covered in a book by Adrian Vaughan called Tracks to Disaster. The accident report itself goes into quite some detail about the erosion effect of the river and how it could rise from a stream meandering down the wide river bed to a full...

    What's your latest acquisition?

Happened to be in York today and saw this in the Monk Bar Model shop window. Apparently it had been put in the window display a few minutes before I saw it. It ran beautifully in the shop so off to test it on the big railway..... 1644693023 A better image

Whatever happened to.....David Maxey of Railtour Review fame?

I remember a railtour review where he described the catastrophic failure of a pair of his jeans during a photostop when he was trying to climb over a fence to get a photo. He did it in the same style as a much loved favourite locomotive coming to the end of its life and reluctantly being...

RMT in dispute with SWR regarding ‘guardian angels’

What a surprise. The teachers unions and the RMT are nothing if not predictable. And as some one says further down the thread what does going on strike achieve apart from reducing further the little support they might receive from the travelling public.

How effective are the daily COVID-19 Press Conferences?

Glad it's not just me seeing those antics for what they are. God help them if they had to think on their feet.

Was the InterCity Express Programme (IEP) a success or not?

Which is what I said earlier in the thread. Trainspotters thinking up reasons not to like the new trains because they replaced their favourites.

How effective are the daily COVID-19 Press Conferences?

That's what happens when celebrity journalists roll into the big top.

How effective are the daily COVID-19 Press Conferences?

Exactly. She obviously considers herself too important to speak to anyone else. Just like doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is pretty much a definition of stupidity, so is asking the same question over and over again. To be fair the members of the public seem...

How effective are the daily COVID-19 Press Conferences?

Exactly. Also is it me or have the two main examples( Kunessberg and Peston) stopped attending after they were quite rightly cut short by the minister heading the briefing. Its all about their celebrity status and not about the news any more.

    Foxton Exchange Sidings

Spoil from crossrail . I think there should be several trip workings in the system from Wembley to Willesden F sidings where the train is loaded.( or at least it used to)

Was the InterCity Express Programme (IEP) a success or not?

Is Alnmouth or Morpeth an Intercity stop? If it acts like an Intercity service( I.e it connects two or more cities) And it looks like an Intercity service Then the chances are it is an Intercity service. Also the perpetual moaning about voyages , Pendos, IEP is getting rather stale. It's...
