Refusal to give up space for wheelchair

Thanks for the replies and opinions. I would never expect the driver to get involved in "forcing" a passenger off. But I do think the bus shouldn't move until the space is clear. If this was a general policy then buggy users would know there's no point in refusing to move. It does feel like...

Refusal to give up space for wheelchair

I was with my paralysed 83-year old mother who is in a wheelchair hoping to board TfL's SL5 service. When it arrived, the driver got off the bus and said he couldn't take my mother because there was a pushchair in the wheelchair space. I asked him to ask the person to move, the space is coloured...

    Do trams need L plates?

Some years ago I remember Croydon trams would display conventional L-plates when drivers were training.

Where to buy London Annual Bus and Tram pass for cash?

I tried to buy a TfL Annual Bus and Tram pass for cash in the Croydon Tram Shop. They told me they could only issue monthly/weekly tickets for cash. The annual pass is £988 and this is too much cash for them to handle...

Tube station refuse to add railcard discount to Oyster card

Several months ago I went to Morden station to load my gold card. It was mid-morning. The chap near the machines hadn't a clue and doubted he could do what I wanted. I was armed with some text from this forum and very politely suggested we could perhaps "give it a go". After the first couple of...

Accused of fare evasion for a period of 10 month

At the moment in our area, Special Deliveries are not being signed for. The postie just writes a code on a tablet - always the same - ("XR") to say it has been delivered. We've had a few things go astray because: 1) delivered to the wrong address which might not have happened had the recipient...

Emergency last thing in the cupboard meal, and other culinary adventures under confinement

I was quite well prepared with various foodstuffs ready for a lockdown. Then I got the virus myself (pretty certain). For a week I've eaten practically nothing! And currently have no sense of smell and very little taste.

Will the Tube be cooler when all this is over?

Curious, is this actually true? (Obviously not the case in outdoor sections...)

Penalty Fare Notice - Valid Ticket

Personally I do not think staff should be saying this if there is no policy of exercising discretion when the passenger does subsequently produce the evidence. If appealing, I would mention what the inspector said. I suppose staff sometimes makes these comments to pre-empt a confrontation.

    Protocol when overshooting a station

No doubt there is proper industry jargon for what happened on Sunday. Was travelling from Redhill to East Croydon last Sunday evening on a Thameslink. Departed Redhill a few minutes late. I was in the 10th carriage. The train stopped at Merstham but the doors didn't open. The driver made an...

Legality or otherwise of opening post for someone not at your address

In the case of S84(3), I think there is still no offence because the item is "correctly delivered" if it has been delivered to the correct address regardless of whether the addressee lives there. Royal Mail delivers to addresses not people. Note S125(3) S125 (3)For the purposes of this...

Legality or otherwise of opening post for someone not at your address

I agree. Referring to the Postal Services Act 2000, as posted before, s84(1) creates an offence, when to somebody who opens post "in the course of transmission". Interpretation is given in S125: S125(3)(a) "a postal packet shall be taken to be in course of transmission by post from the time of...

Legality or otherwise of opening post for someone not at your address

Mail is delivered to an address, not to a person. So whilst it is an offence if, say, you opened a letter with your neighbour's address on it, it is not a specific offence to open something with your address on it, even if somebody else's name. Of course there might be other offences involved...

What more can be done for passengers needing assistance?

I was impressed on the treatment of my mother on her first run out since suffering spinal injury which leaves her in a wheelchair. Simple journey: East Croydon to Brighton, friendly staff ramp in hand ready to meet her. But one thing lacking: the staff happily got the ramp out and saw her into...

Brighton station cabbies get booted out

Not arguing either way in the case of Brighton. I pushed my mother out on a wheelchair - always thought it odd the way you end up pushing your way through taxis. But all were polite though and had my mother been on her own, taxis close by would have been handy. I'm always suspicious when public...

What to do? Passengers on train talking about not having valid tickets

When I was much younger, I used to intervene all the time in situations like this. The first time was at a cub scout jumble sale. I must have been about 10 at the time. A middle-aged woman furtively put a coat under her arm. I followed her into the car park and challenged her. She said she was...

Guildford to south London routeing question

Now when I travel from Croydon to Guildford, I tram it to Wimbledon and buy a ticket from there. Weekday afternoons, the machine at Wimbledon offers these options: Off-peak day return (any permitted) £11.40 Off-peak day return (Route:Clapham Junction) £14.00 I find it confusing that an...

Guildford to south London routeing question

I was told at Guildford station ticket office that I could use my East Croydon to Guildford return ("Not via Clapham Junction") to return via Wimbledon and then Tramlink. I asked if the ticket really was valid on the trams and was assured it was. Don't think the tram guys would agree. I then saw...

Contactless but can't remember which card...

This is akin to a problem I had a few years ago. Had boarded a train from a station where there was no barrier. Then couldn't remember if I had touched in or not. It was annoying there was no way to know. If I knew I had forgotten, I could have got off and touched the pad at the next station...

Am I on an off-peak service?

Hard to say if he was "nice"... he obviously thought the ticket was valid when it wasn't. Isn't this a problem? You get railway staff that say something like this. Passenger comes to rely on it and on a later journey (further down the track, if you like!) he gets some trouble and ends up in...
