Derby Platform 7 - Why isn't it used? (and other unused platforms)

Also 2N73 2351 Glasgow Queen Street to Stirling Mondays to Saturdays, plus an hourly service to/from Edinburgh on Sundays. I didn't see a mention of Haymarket Plt0, which is only used reversing ECS moves in and out of Haymarket Depot at the moment, although has previously been used to stable...

    (TRIVIA) Five of a kind

We seem to be going off on a tangent, but... SBB has an Re 4/4'' as 11111 (although officially 420 111-7 now). RhB has a Tm 2/2 number 111 SNCB has an HLR 77 number 7777 ÖBB has 1116 111-6 Cheers, Ewan

Busiest station with fewer than one t.p.h.?

*sighs* It was of course hourly pre-COVID, but is now half-hourly. It has been one of those days!

Caledonian Sleeper: How should it be run and what changes would you like to see?

It's legally been the Scottish Government for about 10 years: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2012/11/section/12/enacted It also meant that the franchise terms could be different. The day franchise was 7 years with an option to rebase after year five and extend to 10 years, whereas the...

    THE NEW TGV M

But then Switzerland doesn't do very-high-speed rail either really. The FV-Dosto is a 200km/h train. Their higher speed RABe 503s (250km/h) and RABe 501s (300km/h) are both single deckers (and can they reach their maximum speed in Switzerland? Have the GBT and CBT been authorised for 250km/h?)...

Which stations/services have seen the seen the worst decline since privatisation?

These trains are to provide a service from Glasgow to Dunblane rather than Dunblane to Aberdeen. There are gaps in the local service in the evening between Glasgow and Dunblane which are compensated by providing calls in the intercity services.

Nonstop intercity & freight trains schedule (Swiss)

There are internal systems with live train running, but SBB don't have the same open data policies that Network Rail have, so no Swiss equivalent of RTT with freight schedules on it. SBB do publish train graphs, but as with British working timetables, what's planned to run and what actually...

    Longest line of sight (UK)

Stob Binnein to the left of Dumyat, not Stuc a’Chroin, with Ben More on the right through the haze rather than Ben Vorlich. https://www.peakfinder.org/?lat=55.95076&lng=-3.27188&ele=162&azi=299.55&alt=-1.77&fov=14.9&cfg=s&name=Corstorphine%20Hill

    Longest line of sight (UK)

Peak on the left is Ben Ledi, while on the right you've got Dumyat in the foreground with Stuc a'Chroin behind on the left and Ben Vorlich on the right. Cheers, Ewan

    Belgian trains on left-hand-side tracks?

Yes, there are loops on the WHL where trains cross to the right rather than the left and yes it was to minimise shunting when accessing freight sidings. HSL-Zuid is left hand running between the Belgian border and just before Rotterdam Centraal. Cheers, Ewan

SBB Cargo(not international) orders Vectron AC

At least two ELL Vectron MSs were moved from SBB Cargo Intl to TXL (193 256, 257), and some of the MRCE Vectron MSs were previously leased to TXL (193 657, 660, and a couple more). In 2020 SBB Cargo Intl returned at least three Vectron ACs (193 201, 209, 210) back to ELL. The timing coincides...

SBB Cargo(not international) orders Vectron AC

Currently SBB Cargo have Re 482s leased to SBB Cargo International and other German operators, plus some sold, the Re 484s that they are using themselves now, and the Re 474s that are leased to SBB Cargo International. SBB Cargo International have recently swapped out the Vectron AC locos that...

SBB Cargo(not international) orders Vectron AC

The problem with the Re 484s (and the Re 474s) is that they are CH/I, whilst the Re 482s are either CH/D or CH/D/A, so in both cases SBB Cargo Intl need to do a loco change at one or other border. I can see all three fleets being handed back to SBB Cargo as SBB Cargo Intl goes for more MS locos...

Railway stations with border crossing infrastructure

That's not how Wikipedia describes it: "Although the Badische Bahnhof is located on Swiss territory, it is partly considered a German customs territory due to the state treaty originally concluded between the Grand Duchy of Baden and Switzerland."
