Glasgow to London - 2nd July

Sorry for the delay mate. I’m travelling from the Golden Jubilee Hotel in Clydebank and ultimately going to Tulse Hill station. I’d really prefer the train to flying.

Glasgow to London - 2nd July

If they finish on time, 4th June, there’s maybe a chance they’ll open up the 2nd July tickets. The thought of going out to the airport, scanners, flying to Stansted or Luton, all just makes me feel sick.

Glasgow to London - 2nd July

I’m attempting to travel from Glasgow to London on 2nd July. There don’t seem to be any tickets available, except for travelling via Edinburgh. I can get a ticket for 3rd July. Is this due to engineering works or some other reason? Am I better to cut my losses and book a flight now?

Storm Franklin - Further weather disruption possible

I’ve just driven past the derailment site. There are maybe 12 NR workers at the very front wheels, then maybe six or more along the rest of the train. Interestingly, videos from the time it happened show flashing lights at the front of the train. Is this an emergency feature to warn oncoming...

Heat related issues (25 July 2019 and subsequent days)

Don't look onto twitter. I know it attracts a large number of idiots, but many of them are being extremely uncomplimentary.

Heat related issues (25 July 2019 and subsequent days)

Do you think they will be back to normal tomorrow? I am flying out of Luton.

    Long distance and toilet facilities

I think that any TOC which sells Advance tickets should be obliged to provide toilet facilities, and non provision of toilet facilities on a service should be reason to allow someone to travel on a subsequent service without penalty.

Food & Drink on the railway

Within the last five years, I had three double G&Ts on the Heathrow-Belfast flight. I was expecting one single but the very friendly stewardess asked if I wanted one or two. I said two, she furnished me with two glasses, two tonics and four little bottles of gin. When she came to collect the...

Food & Drink on the railway

Give people a microwave and they'll microwave something for three times what it needs, then sue you when a bit of hot cheese scalds their lip. Never mind the fact that they'll be microwaving something they brought on themselves. Babies' bottles will be another legal minefield. Your...

What is the commute from Ascot to Syon Lane like?

The 707s seem to accelerate and decelerate much more efficiently than the older units and, as a result, get into Clapham Junction a minute or two earlier. Honestly, even 30 seconds can make the difference for me so I’m all for them. The seats are less comfortable and it’s impossible to do any...

What is the commute from Ascot to Syon Lane like?

Yeah Sky. There are several thousand people on site there so I think we can retain our anonymity while directly referring to the company. The GSK folk all get off at Brentford.

What is the commute from Ascot to Syon Lane like?

I get an americano, made by a barista in a trendy cafe, which is 35p. A canteen dinner, of which there is a choice of two meat based dishes, a fish one, a veggie dish or a vegan dish goes between 2.10 and 2.60. Or you can go to a proper sit down restaurant and have a gourmet meal, an Italian or...

What is the commute from Ascot to Syon Lane like?

I did it for a year and saw nothing at all untoward. Some school kids maybe making a bit of noise on occasion but nothing sinister. Very few ticket checks on the train. Heading out through Barnes, Barnes Bridge, Kew, it’s all beautiful. Crossing the river, barges at Brentford, rugby pitches...

What is the commute from Ascot to Syon Lane like?

Jessica, I think that I might work for the same big company as you will be. First of all, they’re really accommodating on occasional delays. They’ve got a good flexible working policy. As long as you get your work done, nobody minds if you’re in at 7am, 9.30am or 10am. Provided you’re not doing...

    Croydon Tram Crash

Is it not that the doors are naturally closed and the air pressure pushes them open, meaning that the default position is closed when air pressure is lost?

    Incident at Wandsworth Common 07/08/16

I was once on an NIR Class 80 as a student in the in the 1990s and was chewing gum. To dispose of it I decided to throw it out the sliding window at the top. I put the gum on my finger, put my finger and thumb out the window and got an almighty thwack off a branch. I learned my lesson that...

What is the point of Gatwick Express anymore?

Use your Oyster to E Croydon and then a Thameslink only paper ticket the rest of the way and it's cheaper again. It really is very cheap to get out there if you know what you're doing.

British man arrested for assault on Swiss train guard

He deserves to do time, knocking out the teeth of a working man. I'd give him one year per tooth lost. Presumably the cost of repairing the teeth will not be cheap.

    the Increasingly Frustrating Thameslink

Some of those coaches look very comfortable. The Kings Ferry VIP for example Put someone in a comfortable seat and nice lighting and they'll forgive the delay more easily than in a packed train.

    Platform Ticket

Does such a thing as a "platform ticket" still exist? My wife is going to do the Sailrail to Dublin, along with our three children, and I want to see her safely on to the train in Euston. Do I need to buy a platform ticket to do this, as I need to pass the ticket check but will not be...
