    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

That was very specific and isn't the general case and can be quite expensive. Although it was fascinating to read about.

Network Rail hopes staff will be 'amateur meteorologists'

As an example engineers have to make decisions based on the weather. So to help them make better decisions, upskilling their knowledge at understanding the weather to make more informed decisions. The met office are not engineers so saying we have the met office doesn't really work. I wouldn't...

Another landslip - Knottingley (Pontefract East area)

It's been a prolonged winter with record ground saturation which has been constantly topped up. No big Desmond style events but just constant.

ECML Signalling Systems Failure in the Newark area (06/03/2024)

Was just going to see. Seems to be a very common thing in this area now... Surely with the scale of delays worth focussing some resources into catching em. In fairness they probably already have, hence the slight change in location. Needle in a haystack sort of situation.

    Scotrail’s alcohol ban - pointless?

My recent trips on ScotRail also had many people drinking on them.

Why is rail travel in Cornwall so cheap ?

Every Time I go on holiday down that way I continue to be impressed by GWRs operation. Sure they have faults but it goes to show what happens when you have supportive county and local councils with a competent operator that is interested in improving things. I'm sure much of that is driven from...

    Least popular Sleeper destinations

When I've boarded at Liskeard, there has always been plenty. I would never have thought it was so low though. Never boarded at intermediate locations on the Caledonian but will be boarding at Crewe in January and will be interested as to how busy the station is at 23:45!

ECML South disruption - OLE down 09/12

I am on 1D23 been told to expect single line working. Reckon the London Leeds section will take as long as Cologne to London did earlier today.

Varamis Rail Given Operators Licence from ORR

I did read somewhere that a load of class 321s are being scrapped because there isn't the market to convert them. I'll try find the source.

Being a train driver is "easy snd stress free" according to the sun

Very good way of putting it! As others have said, on a normal day it probably doesn't feel too difficult, appreciating the concentration required, (my own job doesn't either) but it's when the proverbial hits the fan that the money is earned and justified.

Storm Debi affecting rail services today (13/11)

One of the regular flooding spots that, has been for years!

Issues North of Newcastle - Plessey Viaduct - 09/10 (onwards)

What they are saying is the vertical ability of the viaduct to support what was above was never compromised. Or at least I think that's what they are saying.

ECML Signalling Failure Between Newcastle and Durham

I was thinking that, everyday something has happened and like you say somewhere and something different every single time.

ECML blocked at St. Neots? (19/10)

Signalling south of Peterborough seems to be constant now. Multiple times per week.

    TPE Plan for the future

Leeds to Edinburgh is the north part only for both. Not sure they merge at all. XC is keyed around Birmingham. TPE around Manchester.

Moving annual average. Averages the last 12 months.

Issues North of Newcastle - Plessey Viaduct - 09/10 (onwards)

The two Chathill services are the only daily Northern services that have been kept.

Issues North of Newcastle - Plessey Viaduct - 09/10 (onwards)

Indeed I have been on 800-801 combos from Leeds to Hambleton before that did fine (not amazing) but fine.

Severe weather Saturday 7th October, some ScotRail services suspended.

With Carmont fresh in people's minds this is not a suprise. The forecast does look particularly nasty for Scotland tommorow and the NW of England. With quite dry ground as well, I would expect a lot of flooding.
