Bristol to Cheltenham Spa daily for University

I reply mainly because I studied Architecture at Cheltenham in the 70s. My two lads moved away to study and, unless you really are going to miss yer Mum's cooking, I would always recommend moving away...interesting friends and rapid maturity! I've seen young guys go off every night to home...

Ah OK. Is that Penryn station? If so I've walked that bit a few times. Lad lived in some excellent houses in Falmouth, mainly near the art college. Any student who attends the Uni now gets fantastic new build facilities, I was most impressed, and with late buses from town. Lovely little...

How about that? They'll know me as Jim from York...stayed several times. My son went the new Uni there and we all fell in love with the area. Shame the branch trains can't quite handle the loadings for the many events, one day!

Most famous passenger on your train

HaHa...Tony blair, before he was PM. Jackie Charlton (recognised his throat clearance as he woke up from a nap), that delightful lead singer Lady of Prefab Sprout (listening to her own music...I had to ask!), and er the Duke of Edinburgh...I was in the restaurant car. oh and Gazza.

What's the rarest working you've ever had?

Perhaps not so unusual but enjoyable nonetheless... Pope's visit to York...Accompanied good lady from Hull to York: she to see El Papa, from afar I understand, me to observe special traffic movements at York station. Whistler hauled with 10 or 11 bogies. York did an incredible job handling...

    Travelling on lines now closed

Luckily, York to Beverley, via Pocklington and Market Weighton...a cracking line with superb views over the Wolds. Front seat of a DMU...my notes from the day confirm BRCW 4 car set E50560/E59217/E59204/E50582, I think! The line nearly survived, with proposals for singling and colour lights...

Sorry peeps...these is positive feedback! Good lady travelled YRK to KGX Friday with a work colleague (or so she says)! She took her slimming breakfast with her, but he (pig) had the full English...no complaints. On return, she enjoyed (yes enjoyed) a Tuna Nicoise and he enjoyed whatever he...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Bugger all that messing around and "when is the bloody trolley coming?", I'll just take a bottle of wine and a picnic now. It is always going to depend on the crews, and supplies anyway! I have enjoyed fantastic food and service...delivered, lest we forget, in BR InterCity days, and seriously...

What was your best day bashing?

Haha...just dug out the note books...OK Old Git posting, but it was probably my first holiday South (from Perth) in Scarborough...perhaps 1963 as a 14er. Stations you've used that are now closed

Indeed Mr Brian...I'd forgotten that one. New Holland pier. Took the train to Barton on Humber...pre-t'umber bridge mind. Ferry superb from Corpy pier in Hull: bottle of beer "to see you on your way" on't ferry (outside licesning hours of course), train from pier etc etc...I took the bicycle...

Stations you've used that are now closed

Wyvern asked about Cromer...would seem to still have two, one serving a housing estate. Trains from Norwich reverse at the old station and head to Sheringham http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railway_stations_in_Cromer

Stations you've used that are now closed

Err...sorry to be old. Perth Princes Street on the Dundee-Perth line...a hangover from the Victorian days when there was no bridge...useful for access to good fish and chip shops in the centre. It's probably still there but boarded up. Crieff/Comrie before the '64 closure. Rotheram...
