I believe most of them are in open storage as well, much like the class 60s. I've also seen 238 on many RHTT duties eaiere this year as well.

66016 was only repainted a few weeks ago into DB livery.

I assume the quote posted initially should read "The closing date for registrations of interest for these locomotives is at noon on Monday 21st August 2017".

I do wonder if DBC are on a 'fishing trip' with this tender .....

Do you mean to find out who else might have new business in the offing (that they need locos for), or just to find out how much used 66s are worth in the marketplace?

The latter I would imagine. They did this a while back with a few 60s i think? Possibly the same ones GBRF are now rumoured to be buying?

Might also be a genuine slimming down of the fleet given the slightly precarious position DBC are now in as well?

EDIT: According to postings on WNXX they're already earmarked for Europhoenix, the tender is just following due process.

Indeed, doesn't look too shabby here!

66016 Not mine.

Given the financial state of DBC at the moment I'd imagine is more to do with getting some cash into the business.

'sold as seen and where laying' ... says plenty about their condition

Thats a pretty standard caveat as far as I am aware. Absolves DBC of any further costs or legal issues further down the line.

More than likely. Just as the deals on the 37s with DRS, the 60s for Colas and 60s for Wabtec were agreed and then locos put up for tender as part of DB Cargo's agreed disposal policy.

Does this mean they are going abroad?

If they stay it will mean the numbering and liveries will be all over the place like they are in the other classes.

Most are shown on TOPS as stopped awaiting various repairs rather than just surplus to requirements. It would be interesting to know the real condition of these locos considering the time some have been out of traffic.

Not necessarily, there's the construction of the 1st stage of HS2 which probably starts at some point reasonably soon. I don't know who's got the contract to supply locos for construction trains (don't know if that's even gone out to tender), but I'd imagine that once any servicing and repairs have been done that they'd be suitable for that work

Europheonix do not seem like a likely candidate for HS2 work. I don't think they have done anything bar tart up a lot of British traction and send them abroad. Hence the name of their company.

They haven't sent their five 37s abroad though, they've found a use with ROG.

Would the 66s have a more 'useful' future if owned by a ROSCO such as Porterbrook or Eversholt? They can the be leased out on a 'on demand' basis, rather than having a FOC hang onto them just so someone else doesn't get them.

37601 37800 37884 on hire to ROG in a pretty niche market which ROG have taken full advantage of.

37608 37611 are on hire with Colas on IM trains

I'd love to get one for my garden, maybe one day! How much roughly would one of these be, anyone?

I see the ScotRail HST Thunderbird brigade or the 442 fantasists haven't discovered this thread yet <D

How much did DBS punt their 67s off to Colas for - I'd imagine the asking price would be fairly similar, if they are that desperate that is?
